Any fans of the Pizza Hut lunch buffet?
Is it the greatest deal in bicycle touring?
For $8.99 you get unlimited food that consists of most of the food groups, it lasts until 2pm, and you can drink a ton of whatever.
Almost every small town in the Midwest and Great Plains states has one.
There is usually a Dollar General store across the street for new socks.

I think you need to get around a different part of the county. I haven't spent much more than $6.99 for the buffet anywhere east of the MS River. where I live here in NH it's $6 for the buffet, it went up from $5 around the beginning of summer. I saw, and heard of a few other spots, in eastern IN where its $4.99. I typically eat at Pizza Hut once a week, year round and stuff down on the pizza. When I'm around home it's the only place I go to eat.

i've bought into it a couple of times. pretty godawful. i think i'd prefer a couple of hot dog/sausages at 7/11. i don't know how they managed to make the pizza so tasteless. i used to go to pizza hut, in the evenings, frequently and never found much to complain about. but that buffet, oiy.
the good news, is that it's all you can eat and it's cheap, the bad news is that the food is so cheap tasting that you can't it much of it.

Not good food to fuel an engine, too salty. But if you stick to the salad bar it might be OK, though mostly salad is tasteless indicating missing nutrients.

When I an out on the road the whole point is SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!!! So, no.
Mom and Pop bakeries. Greasy Spoons that have not been remodeled for 50+. Places where the menu is not in English (hint - order the special and see what you get - SURPRISE!) Hole in the wall Mexican restaurants where you get stares if you're a white guy and you walk in the door.
Me: I'll have the Menudo, please.
Waitress: You sure?
Me: Yes.
Waitress: You know what that is?
Me: Yes.
Waitress: Oka-ay!

I think the last time I went to a Pizza Hut lunch buffet was ... in Hualien, Taiwan in June 2012. Very hot humid day, looking around for a place to have lunch with A/C just to cool off a little, saw the Pizza Hut and figured it would probably have A/C and cold beverages, and decided to have lunch there. We were right, the place did have A/C and cold beverages, that I remember ... I can't actually remember what we ate.
Even when travelling through the US for 6 weeks later that year, I don't think we stopped at a Pizza Hut lunch buffet.
And before that ... I could be wrong, but I think the last time I went to a Pizza Hut lunch buffet was probably in the late 1990s. Eating pizza at lunch is just not something I think about doing.

My wife and I stopped for lunch at a Mexican restaurant; and when the waitress was ready to take our order I said, " Ill take whatever he has", pointing to the guy at the next table. It looked like good soup, but I knew what it was as soon as I experienced the texture of the ingredients. I ate it, but I don't think I'd order it again on purpose, unless I was really hungry.

Eating interesting food is often one of the highlights of a tour for me. Still, when you are on the road for months at a time every meal isn't likely to be interesting. Eating at a chain some of the time is fine too. I'd rather get a Subway $5 footlong and have them load it up with fresh veggies rather than eat at Pizza Hut though.

That's funny ... after I saw this thread, I did a search to see if there were any Pizza Huts in Australia. I've been here about 6 years and have never eaten at one. I've never noticed them.

I suspect that's why it has never been on my radar ... I've always been under the impression it is quite expensive compared with other pizza places.

Interesting that my wife and I were only talking about this last night. I don't know what I paid for it, but the last one of these I went to was about 7 years ago in VA. I actually thought it was pretty good. Now, I've only seen two of these, but in some places Kentucky Fried Chicken does an all-you-can-eat....for those a quart low on grease....lol

Last time I went to Pizza Hut, sometime in the last millennium, I was very disappointed in both food and service quality and haven't been back since. Subway and Quiznos are the only fast food chains I patronize on tour, and not very often. I saw one casino on my last long tour with an AYCE Sunday brunch buffet, and that was worth every penny of the $12 or so it cost. Generally I avoid AYCE and most other forms of binge-eating.
Funny thing, there's an ad for Pizza Hut on this page on my browser.

Probably a smart move, even when on tour, and especially mid day. I don't typically want huge meals in the middle of the day on tour. Since the Pizza Hut buffet apparently closes mid afternoon stopping and stuffing sounds like a not so great idea to me. Better to eat smaller quantities at a time more often. I tend to snack all day between modest sized meals while tour.

I'd rather eat the box the pizza comes in. Tastes the same and less harmful stuff.
