Curious as to the reason for this post?

I've been known to use a 26in wheeled bike to go buy groceries which includes Pita bread, maybe it's my fault.

26" wheels are fine. When the current fad for oversized 700c wheels has run its course, the industry will trot out 26" as new technology and everyone will have to get a new bike again.
In the mean time there are enough old rims to keep you rolling for a long time.
And some really excellent tires.
I had this frame custom made a few years ago so I could take advantage of Compass Rat Trap Pass tires (26 x 2.3). 4000 miles in 2018, though mostly randonneuring rather than touring.
But the world is not flat. I have to draw the line somewhere.

C*pt*i* Obvious
I roll on 406, 559 and 622 MM rims, tire sizes vary from 25-60MM.
Every wheel size is a compromise of some sort.

If I were to ever tour a flat earth 26" is definitely the tire size i'd go with.

ack! I have three 650b bikes now. I think the newest one will fit 26" wheels better, though, so if anything happens to the present rims, I'm upgrading to 26".

I've toured 15,000+ miles on 26" and the majority of the time I was going uphill...the world is not flat!

wheels schmeels, they are just round things with rubber stuff on them, but I'll take the lower gearing that comes as a bonus with 26 any day of the week.
