The one you just purchased here? That's a pity. The original paint is in extremely nice condition for its age. I would highly recommend picking up a frame in worse off condition and switching the parts if you really desire a different paint scheme! These things are only original once.

@Andy_K had his Moto GR redone by Groody Bros in KC. I’ve seen it, I’ve ridden it. They did a terrific job.

wow, googybros do some good work! and as i haven't received my bike yet, i'm not sure how it looks, so may or may not get it refinished.. nothing wrong with a bike having the aged patina look, but i might like to have it looking like brand new (and original) with fresh decals and paint. it will be my christmas present to myself!

Evan Lightner at The Bicycle Stand in Long Beach did a great job refinishing my '73 Super Course. Besides paint and decals, they did some frame repair and cosmetic clean-up at the top of the seat tube, added bottle cage mounts and cable guides that some demented previous rider had removed. I'm very happy with the result, and, but for a couple of inevitable rock chips from Eroica and other gravel rides, as well as 3000 miles on the road, it has held up very well. I did the chemical strip myself to get rid of badly done rattle can paint. Here's their link:

Paint, as received over 2 years ago.

Actually, it was the Grand Jubilé that was done at Groody Bros.

If you know where to look there are a couple of drips in the clear coat and one spot where the color is uneven. You really have to look for it though. Overall, I highly recommend them. Great work at a great price.

My Grand Record was done by Forever Powder Coating in Olympia, Washington. Forever Powder Coating

I didn't have them do the decals or lug lining. I applied the decals myself over the clear coat.

Leaving the dropouts bare was a surprising choice, but it hasn't shown any signs of rusting yet despite some wet rides and little care. The first time around there was some miscommunication and the seat tube only had one panel, but they fixed it for me. I think the powder is a little thicker than what Groody Bros did, but I'd have no hesitation about using them again. I went with Groody Bros for the second bike just to have a point of comparison. I think Groody Bros were slightly cheaper too.

If you want wet paint, I can recommend Jeffrey Bock in Iowa. He painted my Stella for me. He also did the lug lining, decals, and a bit of repair work on the seat cluster. https://www.facebook.com/JeffreyBockCustomCycles/

BTW, all three of the bikes above had some custom braze-ons added by @gugie, including extensive Gugificazione on the Grand Jubilé. If you decide you want to refinish your bike, I highly recommend adding at least water bottle mounts before it's refinished, and think about what other customizations you might want. It adds to the cost of the project, but you won't regret it.

Oh, yeah, I didn’t realize we were talking about that Grand Jubilé. You want the thread on chip repair.

If you have your heart set on a repaint, I’m sure you can find someone with a Grand Jubilé or Grand Record in rough shape who’d consider a cash+frame swap for that one.
