It's a carbon wrap, so a little heavier than regular AL bars. But it should absorb shock a bit better. The wing design makes the bars more comfy. Flatter "tops" are friendly on your hands.

Did you know bikesdirect owns nearly every brand they carry? That includes mercier, motobecane, windsor, gravity, etc. Among which are brands with some past history but whose trademarks were picked up by BD after the brands folded and have completely abandoned the very brand's roots.
That they intentionally set up phoney websites for these brands with a ridiculously inflated LBS price for them despite the fact nobody else carries those brands?
Yes I figured.

So what other bikes can I look at in the $300 price range?

This isn't entirely true. BD doesn't own SE, Kestrel or Breezer - yet I see PK Rippers, assorted Kestrel carbon roadies and Breezer MTBs on the site (which are also readily available in many bike shops).

BikesDirect basically picks up a lot of stuff from ASI (distributor of Fuji, SE, Breezer & Kestrel), repaints/rebrands certain things and sells them as their own.

Right, but that's why I included "nearly" to keep it short. I did not bother with kestrel/ breezer as they do not apply to BD's SS/FG variety, which does predominately consist of in house brands.

Second part likewise specifically meant for the in house brands that I mentioned earlier which overpopulate SS/FG offerings there.

I'm thinking about ordering a pair now because I don't think I'll like the track drops that come with my bike, and I have to put a brake somewhere. Do you happen to know how the wing bars work with brakes? Do they have to be on hoods? Because it looks like the flat part can't take brakes.

I agree with hamish. But why someone would want a lock with no key I will never understand.

you can already get the 2012 model for like $40 more. I've seen the 2011s under 200 for a few months now

For that price, a fixie no brainer

If I hadn't just bought one, I would have gotten the League- gorgeous ride and a steal price.

I'd wait for a nashbar coupon to knock off another 20%, doesn't exactly seem like a bad deal. You'd probably switch out the track drops, maybe the quill stem too. But you get sugino RD2 cranks.

Weird that the frame is drilled for rear brake, but not the fork. That would be an issue if you want to go single speed.

Even if the bike is average, at least the "slick color scheme is bound to get you some attention at the local coffee shop..."

You'll have to get hoods. I bought them for my roadie myself.

Thanks Jaytron, I'll probably go with the wings just because I want to try something different. And I like riding on hoods a lot.

Edit: Damn! Hit a snag with the free shipping code. I was about to order the bars with some other stuff and the code didn't work. Shot them an e-mail about it, hopefully the code is still valid.

Edit #2: Wow, they got back to me literally one minute after I emailed them and told me the issue was resolved (maybe other people had similar issues).

This thread is the best!
I just got my Fuji and it's fan-tab-ulous! Surprised it came w/ a brake and lever, wasn't expecting it.
great saddle and everything looks slick! Nice bars.

Wheels have 2 white spokes/rest are black- I guess it's a style thing... looks sharp though.
