New Post ride Meal!

After doing a century I've started a new tradition. My new recovery meal is a Big Mac and a Coke. I figured that after riding 100 miles and burning 5000-6000 calories sneaking in a Big Mac here and there can't be too bad. While I normally don't drink soft drinks due to kidney stones, it was either a Coke or a dark beer and I was driving......Hey-it gives me something to look forward to!!

After today's century they had a really nice healthy meal of grilled chicken breast, salad, tomatoes, etc. I sample some of that while sharing stories about the ride with others but I could not get my mind off my recovery meal that lay ahead. There's a McD's just about everywhere so it didn't take but an hour or so before I went by one on the drive back home.

It went down pretty easy!!!

Why do I feel like a Puritan with my home-made post ride smoothie of peanut butter, strawberries, Endurox, protein powder, etc.......while you're a hell-bent hedonist-- and having more eating fun. Burp.

A Big Mac is about the last thing I would think of eating after a hard ride, but everyone is different. If it works for you, then do it.

We have a tradition after our big rides- Load the car- have a chat with the other riders and where's the nearest Restaurant or Fast food house. We always seem to finish up at a K.F.C. but there was one memorable roadside van selling Bacon butties. Oozing in butter and ketchup and the biggest mug of stewed tea I have ever seen. Almost made blasting the ride worthwhile.

All those calories I lost on that ride had to be put back on to enable me to drive the 10 miles back home for a Sunday roast dinner.

Way to go jppe. While I try to eat sensibly most of the time, after a century all rules are off the table. Many times my friends and I will head to the nearest trough (all you can eat buffet) after a hard day on BRAG.
I figure riding long distances and eating healthy food is like being punished twice for the same crime. That's double jeopardy and we have rules against that in this country. I wouldn't want to be accused of hating America!

I had a Pollo Bowl with Chicken
Rice, Beans, Onions and Tomato
and plenty of Tabasco sauce after
my ride on Saturday. That and
about 3 sodas to wash it down.

Man, that was one hot tamale! :O)

I understand the tempation - and you can certainly afford it. Whenever I have a quarter pounder w/cheese and fries I feel like a slug on my next ride.

I often crave a fast food hamburger after a long ride. We don't have any fast food burger places anywhere near where I live, though. I do like the #1 combo at Taco Bell.

You just never know what will be your post ride thing. A local century up until a few years ago offered a huge, eat all you can bowl of chili post ride....if you had room after all their honestly home-made cookies at each stop. Somehow, chili and cheese tasted good. The got "classy" a few years ago, and started offering Italian chicken in tomato sauce. Aaarghhh. I just can't do the post ride chicken.

One man's meat is another's yuck I guess. Mexican food always seems desirable to me after a long ride. The last thing is another mouthful of tepid cytomax.

And then there is (and certainly will be) pie in a few weeks!!!!!!!!!!

I have to question the concept of "living" where there are no fast food places...

Ice-cream or Milkshake followed later by Steak, Potatoes and red Wine is our reward for a hard day work.
The Ice-cream has become addictive.

Recovery meal? You all actually need a recovery meal?

I usually head for the oatmeal raisin bars, a handful of trail mix, two slices of provolone cheese, and a large glass of grapefruit juice. Not sure why, but this combination seems to quiet all the hunger demons that come to the forefront after a tough ride.
