Wow a carbon folder, for sure not a normal commuter heh. That thing can hardly be called a normal production bike with only 30 being made. Any normal bike wouldn't have a chance with this at all. I feel this sounds like a response from Dahon to Tern that "hey we are still innovative and we aren't down for the counter" just you wait!

going to be exciting to see what these parties come out with since they are the main companies that push the envelope on design. But Tern is going to be more reserved on constantly replacing models it seems from their company direction.

You might want to read the link more carefully.
It celebrates the 30th anniversary of Dahon, there's no mention how many units might be sold.
The frame is the normal AL, only the wheels, fork, post, bars, and stemare carbon.
It would be nice to know how much weight those components save over the normal Kinetix Pro parts.
Let us hope they sell the parts on their own so people can upgrade their bikes.

FYI, Dahon and Tern are owned by the same Hon family.
David Hon founded Dahon, and his son Joshua launched Tern.
The Tern Verge and Dahon Vector look to have identical tubing and dropouts.
The Terns are just fancier versions with the welds sanded smooth and better components.
It's like Dahon is the Toyota of folders and Tern is Lexus.
Smart family, effectively expanding their market presence but saving lots on R&D and tooling.

They have the resources, I hope they decide to make a full carbon framed bike soon.

actually according to this from a previous poster:

https://www.bike-eu.com/news/annivers...ahon-5840.html

and dahon themselves

https://dahonbikes.com/index.php?id=3...acc04f56fe3d1d

there will only be 30 made of this limited edition carbon bike.
the 300 or 3000 replica's will be of the vintage dahon model which is actually pretty cool.

I know some people feel that both tern and dahon are of the same company but the amount of litigation and lawyers involved shows otherwise that they not the same company anymore and sharing of any technology is prohibited. Dahon lost a bit of rights to use components and design that Tern had took with them (the biologic line is one example).

Actually, this is completely false. While the two owners are indeed related, the companies are completely distinct and there is bad blood between the father and son which has been evidenced by legal action on both sides in the past year and a half, with both sides claiming patent infringement.

I see, I stand corrected.
I just saw the metal rims on the Dahon site and assumed it was something else entirely.
30 units only, that's too bad.
I couldn't afford one anyway but it would be nice to see one in person and with only 30, unlikely.

That's a messed up family BTW.
Maybe its a American Choppers kind of ruse, but probably not.
Well more competition improves products for everyone so let the fighting continue.

Errrrr Hello, we all love our machines, .. but, its much more likely the rider than the bike that got the win

Check out the winner, Jeroen Janssen's experience:
  • Crit Specialist and fast finisher
  • Elite Crit winner with regular podium's
  • Winner of Ronde Van Gerwen - Holland 2011
https://www.team-raleigh.com/TheTeam/JeroenJanssen.aspx

Although there is irony of a Dahon winning a Tern sponsored race (even after Tern had 'hired' Dahon's 3x winner Keith Henderson).
At least the Brompton world championships are kinda authentic by eliminating the 'machine element' ... but although there will be an occasional 'fairy tale' amateur winner, most tend to be racers (or closet racers ).

The folding race begins on this video @ about 1:30. Winner Mr. Janssen seems to cross the line well back in seventh place at the end of the first lap.

Dahon-mounted riders have a history of winning the Nocturne. The rider does make the final difference, but I note an elite rider on a flexible, ill-handling bike with a complicated fold has never won.

Yeah, nothing quite so authentic as lining up against Roberto Heras.

Hey Juan! did you attend? if so, what happened to Tern's ringer Keith Henderson? did he just get out-powered by Dahon's ringer.. is there a story beyond the results page? I see the Xootr entry of Bailey ran consistent with past year's performances... old, overweight people on the other side of the pond need to know :-)

Looking at the video it seems to be about a 19 second margin of victory from Mr. Janssen back to Brompton rider Rees, with lapped riders in between and Mr. Henderson out sprinting Brompton riders Flynn and Timms to snatch third.

Three things things
  1. Channel 4 is showing the Nocturne in the UK early Sunday morning
  2. Link straight to the start of race on youtube link given above: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQ7aZ...tailpage#t=83s
  3. Feel a little bit sorry for #48 and #63 who had trouble with their folds and were the centre of attention for a little too long.

I didnt race this year (bad knee)! You can tell the "pro's" from the normal people by their shaved legs, looks like the guy who won this year was a very good pro, and would have won on any of the other bikes that finished top 20.
