Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The new red has fixed all FD issues I'm told. If your buying previous years Red, just use a Force FD. I have all Red with a Force FD.

Ok so can I use the new 2012 front derailleur with older Red (2011 version)?

You can use the new 2012 SRAM Red Yaw FD with the older Red shifter. The older shifter has a trim position which is not needed with the new Yaw FD but it does no harm either.

The 2011 and previous Red FDs with Ti cages do not shift as well as Force and some special Red FDs that came equipped with steel cages. The problem was flex due to the Ti cage. The 2012 Yaw FD fixes this, and shifts even better than the earlier steel caged versions.

Basically: Yaw>Force>TiRed

Yes, I have and use all three.

Completely agree. I suggest the Red Yaw FD. It also includes an integrated chain catcher and increases the possible gear combinations -- the reason for the Yaw compenstaion.

I'm using a 2012 SRAM Red Yaw FD with the older Red shifters works great.
No chain rub in any gear combo but the best part is it shifts so much better up front!
