Gets large rear panniers when on grocery duty. Otherwise, front basket for beer runs.

That's a little disappointing - I was really hoping we'd get a photo of your helmet mounted periscope.

Saddle to handlebar drop seems a bit aggressive. I prefer a slightly more "French fit" myself. No worries about saddle bag to tire clearance, though.

Thanks for sharing @Grand Bois.
The copper sleeve on your handlebars, is that a shim for the stem?

They came as a set from Belgium. The brand is Luxe. That's all I can tell you.

...It's been somewhat modified since the pic, with Cyclone shift levers, more upscale seatpost, removal of the half clips, and a more conventional bar position. (Trying to get away from my amateurish "ramps level with the ground" setup.) Hauls groceries, a trailer containing a 5-year-old boy, or both.

Not a good pic as its from a family overnight camping trip(hence the panniers).
I usually use an '80 Schwinn Voyageur 11.8 which has been changed over to a Suntour 3x7 bar end shifting drivetrain. But sometimes Ill use my gravel bike or touring bike.
If its a genuine grocery run, the converted Burly comes with since groceries are for a family of 4. I ripped out the seating and cut a plywood floor to fit so it can hold 8-10 large bags of groceries if needed.
Interesting that this thread is 2 pages deep and this is the 1st trailer mentioned. Everything else is panniers or baskets.

Boy, these are some fancy shopping bikes!
This beast has served dutifully many times. My locks are lashed to the rack. I can wear a backpack full of groceries at the same time and then roll carefully through the streets. It's a bit tricky, but I can do it.

Meant to ask - it seems like a few of you (@Vintage_Cyclist, @jmeb, @Grand Bois) are possibly using rear racks flipped around as front racks - am I correct in that? Or are those front racks with to-the-axle-length stays?

I'll add my Volpe to the one posted by noglider. Just picked this up last winter for $150 including everything you see here except the C-dale rear panniers and h-bar bag (had those before). Even came with a Flight Deck computer.

Can't recall if I have hauled groceries, don't think so. I have hauled a number of other items (commuter gear and items) including fairly heavy stuff (800+ rnds of ammo) and somewhat awkward packages (item to go with the former). I call it my truck. It just turned 20 years old so almost it is arguably C&V candidate. It also just turned 5200 miles that were tracked. Don't know how many prior to tracking. I did buy it new as a last year sale bike.

Should I consider a front rack? Will one work well for this bike?

Has anyone found bike bags that double as...well, grocery bags? Here in California we have a $0.10 charge per grocery bag to encourage reusable bags. It would be nice to have the reusable grocery bag incorporated into the system of the bike bags to go from bike to store to bike to house in one foul swoop.

I just made my first run on this build tonight. It's my '71 Raleigh International, now with 8-speed Sturmey Archer hub gears, upright bars and racks. I intend for this to be my new commuter/townie/grocery bike. 3 bags of Trader Joe's finest later, I'm declaring it a success.
