Trailer Hitch, Skewer, & Brakes Question
Hi folks,
I have a rear brake concern and think it is related to my trailer hitch. I'm hoping someone on here has experience with this. Background: I went to my LBS to have new brakes installed (Shimano Altus C91 Rear Cantilever) just before the COVID 19 lockdowns. I didn't look closely at the brakes when I took the bike home and the bike seemed to stop fine. Recently, I installed a Burley trailer hitch on the quick release skewer. I looked at the brakes threafter and saw that the gap between the pads and the wheel rims on my rear tire are irregular (too close to the rim on one side, too far off on the side). Did adding the hitch cause this? Does this need to be fixed? If yes, what needs to be adjusted? Is this doable for an amateur mechanic?

Yes when you loosened the wheel it might have happened that you did not tighten back up with the being wheel straight, There should be even distance on each side between the rim and the frame. You can adjust that by loosening the wheel and straighten it out.
If it is straight your LBS did not do a good job installing these brakes. But since these are cantilever brakes you can adjust each brake shoe with an Allen wrench.

Your drive side pad looks high with respect to the tire, so that seems to agree with the statement above that the wheel is not completely seated.
