Hey friends, I'm not going to be able to participate in the logging threads for a while. I'm having a toe amputated on Monday, so I'm gonna be off my feet, and bike, for a bit. As soon as I can though, I'll be back on the bike and logging my miles here.

See ya soon!!

Well this years riding has been derailed. Last week on March 31st, I was planning on doing a short 25 mile ride to finish off the miles for the month. I was taking a new route, following google maps the road changes to a mix of loose gravel over a rock hard ground. The rear end of my bike fishtailed as I rode on this trail. I decided to turn around to be safe. The rear wheel broke loose and I went down, I couldn’t get my foot out of the cleat, the only thing that I thought as broken hip. After 2 hours of surgery and 5 days in the hospital (so far) my Doctor told me that this is the worst hip fracture that he has ever seen. I fractured my femur in 5 places and tore a lot of muscle. The repaired leg won’t bear my weight for 4 months. So I get to cycle again on August, unless some really good healing occurs. We’ll see you guys in about4 months.

Prayers for a speedy recovery . Hope you’re young enough for a full recovery.
I’ve had two falls in the past year , just about 12 months apart . Thankfully, I was only bruised and scratched up . I’m not sure I’d recover from an injury like that . Best of luck .

Gravel road riding seems to be the big thing around here at the moment. I thought , that sounds like fun , then I thought about all of that loose gravel and decided I’ll stick with my neighborhood streets and an occasional MUP ride or a belt line ride .

That is not good. I hope you heal very quickly and don’t experience too much pain.

Since riding my cruisers , I noticed they all had pedal extenders because I had to adapt them to take 9/16 pedals.
so I dug out my bag of pedal extenders and put them back on my other bikes .
Hopefully they will help with my knee and hip issues.
So far , I think it’s helping.

Hi all,

I've been away for months and off the bike all year. Even though I wasn't going to plan last year's 8,500 miles, I still planned on a robust year (5-6k miles).

Well, in January I took a nasty (freak) fall on someone's farm of all places and fractured my spinal lumber (#2). It was extremely painful and unfortunately, not the first time I've had a compression fracture (first time was 40 years ago in a car wreck) so I was wondering if it would allow me to ride again, given my age, etc.

I can't think about. what I've lost, but rather just keep going and pay the cards I have.

Well, I've been healing slowly and managed about 25 miles today. I'm going to ease into it, so may not ride or even post everyday, but certainly not giving up. Don't feel too bad right now, we'll see how it feels tomorrow AM, lol!

And of course I am officially a clydesdale again at 207 lbs, so there's that, too....not riding will do that.

Sorry to hear about your fall. Hopefully you’ll be back in the saddle fully soon.
