I assume that you just need a very specific frame size that fits. There is that large bolt right at the saddle extension, maybe that gives some adjustment?

If you look at the beam, you will see two points that touch the top tube, one near the handlebars, one further back. I believe the further back connection point is in a slot, so you can raise or lower the saddle height within a range.
I picked one up last year as a donor bike, still not sure what I am going to do with it....

I still look for one of these occasionally, I'd like to find a Rocket someday. My biggest concern is finding parts if something needed to be replaced.

For any of you that actually ride your softride, do you experience beam creak? It has been said that beam creak reflects my failure to make perfect circles with my feet, thereby putting rhythmic oscillations into the beam. That may be so, but sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't, and I don't think its occasional failure to appear is entirely a function of my pedalling perfection. I am wondering if there is a problem with the beam itself, or if there is some maintenance I should be doing. Any advice?

That is correct. The softride offers a lot of flexbility for riding position. If you look at my bike, (post 47) you will see that the beam is tilted pretty far up, because I'm very tall. The seat clamp can be slid along the beam to locate it longitudinally, and, of course the seat can be tilted as necessary. My frame may actually be a bit small for me, but I have compensated with a long 30 degree stem and the beam tilt. I also have an elevated seat clamp accessory called a hi-jacker that lifts the seat an additional 2 inches above the beam. The one thing to beware of is the weight limitation of the beam. some of these are as low as 180 lbs. for road use. Mine is rated 230 lbs for that use.

I actually think some of them look pretty cool but I would be afraid of breaking that beam at my current weight.

It is one of those designs, like a funny bike, that I'd like to try someday but at the same time one that I'm sure I wouldn't keep long.

There's one on the local Craigslist. It's been there for months. $1,000 seems a bit steep.Had a guy at a local bike shop explain the theory to me. If there is anyone in the OC area who would let me test-ride one, I'd take them up on it.

I've sometimes wondered whether a bow-maker (as in archery, bows 'n arrows) could create a wooden suspension beam with ease, seeing as the inherent design is not that much different from one limb on a break-down recurve bow.
