I rode the Cannondale. The crowds spread out pretty quickly so that's not a concern. I was happy to be on a road bike rather than hauling my XC frame around. The NYC roads are not always the most forgiving, though. If you decide to ride it next year, let me know. I'm planning on riding it again.
