I weight just shy of 220# kitted out, and I have yet to find a bike with wheels bigger than 12" I would truly feel unsafe on.
In any case, your fork is far more load bearing and takes far more abuse than the frame itself, why is carbon perfectly OK there but not in a lower stress area?

Actually, you have it backwards.
Aluminum can be recycled. Carbon reinforced epoxy cannot.
There is a process where the epoxy is burned off but the left over carbon cannot be used for structural parts. This isn't really recycling per se.
