And how in the world did this guy survive the impact?
Apologies if this was posted already, I did a quick check and didn't see it here in the Commuter forum.

How did it happen? Alcohol and/or drugs most likely. How the guy survived? Divine intervention, luck......... who knows?
A drunk driver here rear ended a line of cars stopped at a construction zone just outside town about 15 years ago. His van went completely through a Ford Escort at the rear of the line killing a woman and her 6 year old grandson before striking the car in front of it and pushing that car into the next 2 cars in line injuring the occupants of that car. His estimated speed was 85 MPH. When witnesses pulled him out of his totaled van he was trying to get it started, totally unaware of what he had just done. He told them he didn't know why they were yelling at him "it isn't like I killed anybody".... He served about 5 years of a 20 year sentence and got paroled IIRC but a couple years ago he got caught by an off duty Sheriff's Deputy on a back road, under the influence, with an open beer and....... and I am NOT making this up.......... his 7 year old daughter on his lap steering the truck while he drank! That put him right back in to finish his full sentence with no parole. The States Attorney tried to get additional time for child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor but I never heard if he got it done.
