Raleigh Militis Ultegra 57cm Road bike - $999

https://fresno.craigslist.org/bik/d/...970222508.html

Raleigh "Militis"? Does this bike cause Diabetes? I gotta ask, "Who are the ad wizards who came up with this name?" I guess it beats "Raleigh Dementia" or "Raleigh Pancreatic Cancer", but not by much.

"I built the bike and had fun with it. It was built around Early June 2019. I want to do a redesign and put pontoons instead of styrofoam on it so this has to go. It’s not heavy but another reason to selling is I don’t have a truck to take it to the boat ramp and IT WILL NOT FIT IN A SUV! Trust me!! And it would be a waste to built a trailer for it. I have extra parts for it, I could throw them in like a 1970s Chevy cassette car radio, styrophome, metal racks, ext.

Bike features:

1: You get all the looks becuase it’s unique
2: Steering wheel to steer the bike on road/water
3: Side crates out of a refrigerator to store life vests and rope
4: vanity stuff on the back
5: It floats

The bikes gears work but there a little hard to work. The Donar bike is a old late 1990s-early 2000s spray painted shwin bike I got years ago at a garage sale. Call or text 219 508 7590 for more info about this..... Creation.

bicycle frame material: other/unknown
bicycle type: mountain
frame size: No clue
wheel size: other/unknown"

(Had to post the text! Stay tuned for "Boat Bike 2.0"?)

(Wait, what? He'll throw in a Chevy cassette car radio? Is it waterproof? What about speakers?)

Since this chap is defending it, I'm going with the theory that it left the bike shop that way. When I first started working on bikes, it was in an old Raleigh shop. They also sold Gitane and Peugeot. My learning curve began with assembling bikes, and truthfully, I was pretty green. I don't think that it'd be much of a stretch for us to imagine an incompetent assembly - or a distracted, hurried assembly, followed by an incompetent/distracted salesperson pushing this thing out the door. Its a Cannondale, and in my experience, only shops with some cash get a Cannondale dealership. Shops that sell Cannondales tend to have more than one location. More locations = more employees = fewer management to go around (especially on nights and weekends) = more chance for employees to get distracted and lazy.

Could have been a hazing for the new guy, like sending the apprentice to get bearings for the bearing wall...

I followed up & was gently like, hey the steering isn’t as designed that way and would be real twitchy. He was like good catch, thanks, I’ll fix it.

I assume there’s nothing super-weird about the setup (other than the weirdness of Lefty itself) and he can just loosen the stem and spin the fork around and it’s good, if the cables allow.

Hopefully it comes with its own pontoon or a dry bag. You can just tow it around with you. He probably forgot to mention that the cassette stuck in it is "Drift Away"...

Followed by I'm Sailing Away. And then Come Sail Away (or is that the same song?)

Same song--by Styx.

Sail On by Lionel Ritchie. Anything from the Beach Boys or Christopher Cross....

But not Under The Sea...although it might be a little like foreshadowing.

Looks like a cheap branded bike, à la GMC Denali. One piece crank is a sure giveaway.

Danke. The price would have made it worth the drive.

^^^^^ Huffy. Somehow they got (evidently bought?) the rights to use the Ironman name and logo on one model of their bikes BITD. Dude here has had one on CL, on and off, for a couple years, trying to pass it off as a "triathlon" bike.

Here's the "Ironman" that's been listed locally on and off for over a year. No idea if the seller honestly thinks the frame is "Titanium Boron"

At least that one has a three-piece crank, and the seller took enough care to take the picture from the drive side.

There's a decal I wasn't able to completely read on the NDS of Tribike's listing. It looked like "TITANIUM ***** STEEL", so maybe that Titanium Boron Steel the seller is listing is what that decal says. What will those marketing folks think of next!
