I'm looking for someone who still does B&W photo darkroom work. I've some old negs, and I'd like to get some printed. Suggestions?

Thanks!

if you can't go a commercial route for some reason, i might contact the art/photography prof at the local junior college.

How big are the negatives? If they are 35mm the cheapest route would be to buy a $150 film scanner. I found a stash of old negatives in my fathers basement and now they can access them from their phones to show their friends life in the 1950's.

+1 or find somebody who has one. That way, you get a contact sheet and can choose prints to have made rather than all of them.

I have a contact sheet and the negs (35mm). Didn't think about a film scanner. Are the results decent?

I'd find someone with a scanner and ask/pay them to scan them digitally for you. Once you have digital files more modern and cost effective ways to print them will be available. Having owned a few film scanners myself I'd really suggest not buying one unless you want scanning film to become a "thing" =) That being said, are the negatives uncut and still in a roll?

Like everyhting else Ed, it depends on what you spend, in general.
Good prints can be scanned on a two hundred dollar print scanner.
But a negative scanner that will do as good as you might be used to
in darkroom produced prints will cost you a pretty penny.

I would just try to find yourself a hobbyist local photographer that has a darkroom
And might do it for you for not too much.
Or maybe the local tech school if you have one up there.

I'm facing the same dilemma. I have thousands of negs. Black and white and some color.
I even have all of the darkroom stuff! Complete with enlarger and all the tanks, etc.
But that was in a past life and I just have to get rid of that stuff. Some day.
Good luck with your quest.

I've got a complete B/W darkroom setup you can have for postage if you want a new hobby. Probably some paper, too, but no chemicals. I believe I've still got a set of trays for developer, stop bath and fixer, too. My enlarger has negative trays for 35mm and 126. The whole schmear would ship in a box a lot smaller than a bike box

I used to have a darkroom, and I've done a lot of (too much) image scanning. Using an image scanner by yourself will only work if you are retired and have tons of free time to devote to this. The amount of work it takes to scan, correct, and print images is phenomenal. Much smarter and better quality to go with a service. There are several around, including this one: https://www.digmypics.com/FilmTypeComparison.aspx

I have a darkroom, I wish I had the spare time right now to be able to print my own work.

Wish I could help, Epson makes the best scanners.
