Seat bolt for Waterford?

Hi. I bought this frame (1990s) without a bolt for the seat clamp. What style/size, etc should I buy to replace it?
I have old seat bolts from the 80s and earlier but I don't think they are correct. Any suggestions?

Maybe try a local nut & bolt store. With some luck, they'd have an Allen head bolt that will thread into the left and fit down into the right.

At least they would also help you get the sizes right, and maybe a temporary solution.

Most of the bikes I've seen with that style of seat clamp use an M6 cap-head bolt:

No need for a nut. One side of the braze-on looks to be threaded. What I can't see is if the other side is enlarged for a the cap head of the bolt.

I found another thread discussing that this frame takes a 27.4mm NOT a 27.2.
This is disappointing b/c I have a nice Thomson elite that is marked 27.2; I was going to use this Thomson once I figured out the bolt solution.
Can you confirm your '95 1200 series uses a 27.4? My frame is also a 1200 series and approximately early to mid 1990s. thanks.

How loose/tight is your seatpost in the frame? Do the ears look bent?

There are quite a few 27.4 seatposts on E-Bay. TPC has a pair of nice looking Dura Ace seatposts, and a few Campy ones are up there too. Also, several zero setback Thompsons.

I have a spare 27.4 that I removed from my Waterford Precision, in case anyone is still looking. I replaced it with a Campy model and that cost me a buck or two!

I can also check to see if I have a spare seat lug clamp bolt also, if there is an interest.

All 753 tube sets used the 27.4 dia seatpost. Mine is 95. The 531 and 853 bikes use a standard 27.2

yes, I am interested. I really want to get this bike on the road before temps drop....I keep hitting snags that slow me down. Must press forward1

you are likely correct,but the cap sticks out in an ackward way. It seems a frame of this caliber would have used something more elegant. If you look at the post above from Scooper, there is no recessed area at the seat clamp area. So I am wonder if just a regular bolt was what was originally used or something more flat.

Going to the city today. Will pick up my Waterford and check the bolt availability for you. I have the seat post set aside already and you can see it in this picture of my bike...

That's why it's just cheaper to get the right size. My 1200 had a 27.2 Thomson also. So I went out and bought another Waterd frame to use the seatpost in. Not the most economical solution but it sure was fun.

I picked up my Waterford, from the local bike shop, today. While there I asked the head mechanic what size the clamp bolt is and he quoted M6. The seat post I have is nothing special but it is the correct size. Will send a pm later today.
