Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

LBS should be able to sell you a spoke. Or, if you're a heavy rider and plan on hitting curbs and potholes, buy a bunch of spokes from ebay.

A shop with a spoke threader should be able to fabricate a replacement for you by cutting the swaged end off of a longer standard spoke and threading the newly cut end.

I've seen fresh-cut spokes somewhere online too.

Sounds kinda odd...they rebuilt my EA90sl wheel with new spokes, no charge, when the second spoke broke at the start of the threads at the rim, but then again I bought them new from my LBS and kept the receipt.

How old is your wheel? I also have some Circuit wheels 2 years and maybe 4000 miles with no problems....have stayed completely true. Make or buy some spokes and you should be fine.

On their website, Easton says:

"Straight pull spokes are widely available through bicycle parts distributors. Replacement spokes are available directly from our tech department at 800-347-3901 x5177."

I find it hard to believe that they quoted you $90 for 5 spokes. I could see 5 for $9, or $19 shipped...

I'm interested in what you discover, as I have a set of Easton wheels as well (Ascent). Mine seem pretty bullet-proof so far.

A lot of good information has been posted to help you with this specific situation, and I don't have much to add in that regard. That said, if/when you decide to get new wheels at some point in the future, this is a great example of why I like my PSIMET's.

This can be said about any wheel company that builds with standard spokes/hubs, but you can pretty much go to any bike shop and get a spoke replaced on one of PSIMET's builds, should a spoke break.

Agree. Nobody charges $18/spoke... or could remain in business if they did. Run-of-the-mill DT Swiss Competition spokes are around $1/ea. High-end Sapim CX-Ray or DT Aerolite spokes are $4-5/ea. I'd suggest the OP call or e-mail Easton and verify the price. Wouldn't surprise me if they wanted $19 for 5 rather than $90...

I'll call them back and ask, but I'm pretty sure they said $90 which is just crazy. Those things must cost like ten cents to fabricate. I like the idea of talking to a shop with a spoke threader. Thanks for the input everyone!
