28T chainring for 1 x 9, or bigger biggest cog , possible ?
Hi I recently converted to a 1x9 (32 x 11 - 36 ) on a mountain bike .
I enjoy it and am glad to see the front mech gone but I am thinking I would have been better off with a lower gear like a 28T ring up front .
As it is I have removed the rings from the triple that was on the bike to pop on the 32T ring in the middle position .
Now if I were to look at putting on a 28T would that mean that it would only go into the granny gear position on the cranks due to the smaller bcd of these rings and so not be well aligned with the rear cassette ? That is if it is even possible to find a 28T narrow wide?
Another thing I am considering is putting a much larger rear gear on the back , like a 40t or 42t but I am not sure my 32005 sram x-7 deraileur would handle such a capacity .
Thanks for any ideas ,
J
