'84 Peugeot PH10LE

I bought it new in '85. I want to replace the internally-routed brake cable housing. It doesn't want to come out of the TT. Is it one long piece or two short pieces? I know about leaving the old cable in place as a guide for the new housing. I don't want to just start yanking on it and have a disaster. It's not in bad shape and it is lined. I'd just like to replace it--after all, it is 35 years old. Any and all comments or helpful hints appreciated.
Thanks
Jon

Probably should move this to the Bike Mechanics forum, Jon.

Why is the housing unwilling to come out? Is it just sticky at the ends? What I might do is slip a piece of housing on the cable at the rear, and use that as a drift to dislodge the housing at one end, at least. Then knock the other end loose with a small punch, and pull all the housing out the end.

@Jon T, the brake cable on my '85 PH10LS is one long cable from brake lever through top tube to rear brake. Nothing attaches it to top tube, it just runs through the two holes, although I think sealing those up is probably a good idea. Could your cable have chaffed through and rusted itself to the top tube? Did Peugeot use grommets originally to hold cable in place off top tube?

Aubergine--I'll give it a try.
Cannonride--it came with the cable internally routed from the factory. It was not a DIY project so there are no externally mounted grommets. I doubt the housing has rusted in place. The bike has never seen wet weather and during my 20 year hiatus it was garaged properly. Maybe it's just stuck from being old.
I'll get it out eventually. I'll keep you all posted.
Merci Mes Amis.

Agreed - my 84 PH10LE also has a long cable running through both holes. It came out fine but was definitely a tight fit

I suspect the hole edges were not smoothed out by Peugeot. The cable casing must be hanging up I
on it, especially if the hole does cut into the outer plastic sheath after chaffing on the edge for many years and the internal metal wound casing is exposed....
Gitane did a better job on their bikes by actually brazing in an internal metal tube with the ends sticking out of the top of the top tube near the seatpost and headset. Thus, changing rear brake cable casings on the 83 and later steel Gitanes with internal rear brake cable routing is a breeze.
