Bannack, Montana
Hi guys....just wondering if anyone has ever ridden to Bannack, Montana. I'm a big fan of Old West Ghost towns. ANd this is one I want to see. Along with Bodie in California. I know most of these have dirt roads leading into them. Are they ridable?

Bannack in on ACA's Great Divide MTB Route, so I would say it's rideable. It's actually a state park.

An entire group of us on our road touring bikes stayed there in 1983. We carried our groceries in from Dillon. At that time it was a fairly easy 4 miles of a dirt side trip off MT 278, the ACA TransAM route. According to more recent journals at crazyguyonabike it is now paved most of the way. Google satellite view confirms this. I also camped at Bannack SP on a solo trip in the '90s on the Great Divide Route. I picked up supplies at a small store at Polaris to the north. Mosquito Alert... they were vicious!

Let me guess: "If you forgot it, Ma's got it."
The issues of supplies is actually why I asked the OP how he planned to get there. Other than Polaris, Dillon and Wisdom, there ain't really anything around in terms of groceries.

If you're riding from Edmonton to Bannack, it would be worth riding to the ghost town Garnet on your way south.
My wife and visited there this summer, it was one of the highlights of our trip. We were traveling by car.

The little rural general stores are slowly disappearing, which makes bicyle touring that much more difficult.

I will definitely look into Garnet. Thanks! I've also got Nevada City and Virginia city to check out.

Its a bit north of Polaris, nothing in Polaris but a post office and a small school. The store isn't open every day and when I was there (2015) there wasn't much selection.
