From OC Public Works FB feed: ATTENTION: Santiago Canyon Road is CLOSED between the SR-241 and Silverado Canyon in #OrangeCounty due to reported downed power line. Please use alternate routes.
No mention of when they'll have it fixed.

If it's just a power line, I'm sure they'll have it taken care in time for this weekend's rain.

My google fu is weak - is Santiago Canyon still closed? I planned on riding through there tomorrow morning (just to Cook's corner)
Edit: found it on twitter - the Edison issue has been resolved but it's supposed to rain tomorrow, blech. Might have to play that by ear.

Yes it's open. Is there a Cooks Corner ride on Zwift?

rode it northwest to southeast today. pavé in fantastic condition both sides of road. just a few rox and a little mud on the shoulder southeast side at the summit closest to modjeska but nothing to fret over. bombed down live oak rd to trabuco canyon. sign was up that the trabuco creek crossing just south of the general store was closed but it thankfully turned out to be false (def didn’t feel like climbing back up live oak at that point). there were approx 10 caltrans dudes actively rocking the creek with 4 bulldozers in play and a ton of sandbags deployed on the lowish bridge with more rain in the forecast, that particular crossing still is a day of and day after rain-likely closed. two days after rain-probably open.
only saw saw a handful of road workers on santiago cyn but they were doing surveying.

I rode the canyon yesterday from Jamboree up to the trailhead at the end of Silverado Canyon and back to Jamboree. Road conditions were good the whole way. New areas of pavement are excellent. They also fixed that nasty bump/grate that was on the downhill side of Dump Hill just past the 241 off ramp. I sAw at least 6 drivers pass other cars in the two lane sections. A bit disconcerting to see them moving that fast on wet pavement. I don’t often see this, maybe because other drivers were (sensibly) going slower due to the wet conditions.

no separated bike path at any point but a (by socal standards) consistently wide shoulder/bike lane. many of the cities comprising orange county are
pretty good about that but it can always improve. la county...not so much. san diego county lots of big hits and even some homers but plenty of strikeouts too.
if one doesn't feel comfy riding santiago cyn currently or any longer, there is always the wonderful network of dedicated bike paths in lake forest/(especially) irvine and newport beach.
i'll still take santiago cyn vs pch but i ride both 2-3x a year. it's probably different when it's in your backyard and you're actively riding/ignoring it.

I came across the bottom end of the dedicated bike path that goes north off Ortega hwy near Antonio a month ago. Not sure if this works its way to Rancho Santa Margarita, but I'm going back when things dry out and find out. Should be interesting. All the back roads of Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel that can take you over to Crown Valley and adjacent to the coast are not to bad. Just depends what day and time, as anything else in OC.
