Bike chain length

So, I just had to replace my bike chain. The old one was worn, and rusty, didn't move properly, etc etc. So, I got a replacement one, but I accidentally made the replacement one 1 link shorter than the original. Will that change anything? Will that prematurely wear down anything? Will it change how the bike rides and handles? Thanks! I just rode the repaired bike for the first time, and I don't think all MTBs handle/drive the same, so I wouldn't know.

You made it one link shorter (as in 1/2") or one link-pair shorter (1")?

Might want to ask over on the mechanic forum. Include extra details like what kind of drive train you have, what kind of bike you have etc. Odds are the rear derailleur moves with the suspension and I don't know anything about the kind of suspension you have.
