I'm thinking inefficient. He looked to be off the back quite a bit and was having to surge a lot.

385 might have been NP, too. Anyway, in crits where it goes bad and you're big like I am it gets really hard really fast. I did 400w (np) for almost 20min at Cat's Hill only to pull out as I was about to be lapped.

No clue on the power being NP or what, just remember him saying something about it while looking like he was going to passout or die

I hear you on being big. I'm not super efficient either and probably have 15-20 pounds on you. That "little" hill at San Rafael ate me up in a hurry.

Yeah, just didn't want anyone to think "well if he gets dropped on 385w in that p/1/2 race, you must need 400w to finish it"...

I bet at least 5 people here were thinking that! =]

I'm pretty sure Rahsaan couldn't get either of those names out of his head after hearing them on the podium a million times..

Also I thought it was pretty lol that he wanted 3rd instead of 2nd since he's gotten 2nd there so many times!

Nice cat 4 video. Looks like you used youtube's stabilization tool. I'd skip it and do your own. Keep it up.

Are you referring to doing it with software I used, or getting more stable recording platform?
For former I tried imovie tool, and it was even worse. For the latter unless I mount it on the helmet not much is available for contour in terms of handle bar mounts. I don't really want to mount it on the helmet. The mount for it isn't too great either.

umd, no longer a member here, uses the following mount on his bike.

He added the side-slide-helmet-mount thing (attached with zip ties as well as the adhesive) so now he doesn't have to cut zip ties each time he takes his camera off. In the pre-slide-mount time I loaned him my Contour. He installed it in maybe 20-30 seconds, did the race (2011 Red Trolley Cat 3s, it's on YouTube). He gave me the camera back and just clipped the two zip ties, that took all of 10 seconds.

I imagine with the slide mount it would take a bit longer.

I looked it up, it's the "Contour 4165 Profile Mount"

IMO this is the gold standard for Contour bar mounts. This is a couple years old though, I don't even know if Contour is still in business, or if so maybe their newer models have different mount points. But anyway, it's a tripod-to-gopro adapter, then the k-edge gopro bar mount.

do you know who makes the tripod-to-gopro adapter? i looked on the contour site and didn't see anything that resembled it.
I bought a contour years ago but never use it since I've always had a problem getting a good mount.

I use a combination of the Drift mount above and a K Edge bar mount. Works ok. I want to move it to the helmet.

That looks terrible from a vibration standpoint. You want the bars as close to the center of mass of the camera as possible. With that setup, the whole camera should be vibrating up and down continuously. Any videos with that mount on average roads?

Sure, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwecLXDgKkU (video is not especially interesting, team pre-ride of Battenkill a couple years ago).

Vibration's not bad. The second adapter I linked above would put the camera directly under the bars and would maybe be even better.

I guess it's not flopping as I'd expect. It could be much worse. Looking at the clouds and the rolling shutter distortion, it's pretty clearly bouncing around. I guess I can't think of a better solution unless it's some very expensive electronic/mechanical stabilization though, strapping it to a helmet. At any rate, those other designs do look like they'd be better.

Seems like the Shimano(?) cams the pros are using in the TdF are pretty sweet (small, good video quality).

I'm holding out until the bikes look less like a digital camera (GoPro), or a flashlight (Contour). Way too big!

I don't see how this setup is any better then mine in terms of vibration. Mine is mounted under the handlebar also using:

I don't think the mic quality on contour is all that good. Probably explains the sound.
I mainly use mine on my motorcycle helmet, the side benefit of it is I can record races with it also.
