Good and tried SF bay area coach
I started training with power on my own a year ago and I can see results. I also learned a lot about training. I'm thinking about getting a coach to take this to the next level. I would like to work myself up to cat 3 (from cat 5) and I'm over 30.
Do you guys have someone to recommend in the SF bay area? Any luck with online services?

I'm partial to data driven athlete.
Full disclosure, he's my coach as well as our team's primary sponsor. He's got athletes in the bay area while being based in Sac. He's got a second coach on staff in addition to himself and I've been quite happy with the coaching received.

You can get pretty far coaching yourself, fwiw.
Even if you do find a coach, you should read some books on it to know if they know wtf they're doing/it's worth the $$.

I have used several in the bay area.
Five Rings Cycling - Dmytriy Badeaka. He has a cycling gym in San Mateo and hosts Sunday group rides where he follows in a van supporting the ride and coaching. He is a former pro racer and coached the Belarus national team for years. He coached two of the Team Sky racers as juniors including current world TT champion Vasil Kiryienka. He is very old school and no power training per se.
Pros: If the weather is bad or windy, one can go to the cycling gym and work out with others and he takes individuals on the rollers and just drives you to a point you cannot do on your own.
Cons: Very weak on power training.
Sport Velo - Dan Smith. He does road, track and triathletes. He provides email workouts plus special events such as HIT sessions, indoor training and camps. He runs a Thursday morning track session at Hellyer in San Jose. Also, he is currently Stanford University's cycling coach.
Pros: Very current on the NorCal racing scene and modern training techniques including power. USAC level 1 coach with over a decade of coaching experience.
Cons: Unknown.
IMO, I would not hire an email only coach. IMO, that is a trainer not a coach per se. Coaching is about eyes on the athlete and helping all aspects of their development not just going to a list of workouts and picking out a few for the week. Although, that can be of value.
I go for something that I cannot do on my own.
