Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Smart bikes came out a lot earlier than I thought.

I have to eat breakfast, cereal, and have coffee, but I can do 50 or 60 miles on water. Don't really want to, however. If I had the discipline to do that then I would be able to moderate my diet daily, which, of course, I cannot.

Depends - not all snow-covered ice is the same. Sometimes it's really slick ice with loose snow sitting on top - it would be really easy to take a spill on that. If it's ice with crusty snow really adhered to it? Sure.

Eating is one of life's pleasures and drinking on the bike is necessary to survive.

I will usually do up to a metric with only water, after the morning coffee, but on an otherwise empty stomach - my energy stores are usually more than enough to get through that (then again, this is in much flatter terrain than you'd be accustomed to), and I really don't ever really feel famished with that kind of effort. That wasn't always the case, though - I remember feeling like I had to pack snacks and stop for water refills on 30 mile rides.

"Fat adaptation" may or may not be related to this - I really don't know. I have made of point of riding early and on an empty stomach for a few years now, and the end result is that I'm not at all uncomfortable doing it, but the mechanics are beyond me.

Received my second vaccine dose yesterday, so today I'm experiencing a smidgen of nausea this morning, low grade fever and chills, but high grade fatigue. Well worth the price of admission, though.

Good deal, and I hope you don't get knocked down too hard.

I have an appt on Thursday. Once the Director found out we're dealing with the public, driving their junk, and otherwise mingling with the great unwashed, he gave us a link to set an appointment. Plus, age and some of that damn COPD, sort of put me in there.

I almost think I may have had it, in hindsight. I had a slight cold, but no other symptom. No fever, no loss of senses, none of that, other than a sore back. The sore back I attributed to weights, and didn't think twice. Lately though, my breathing is a little worse for wear, and I don't like that. I wouldn't think twice other than the fact that it came on almost overnight, so who knows.

I mentioned here that most of the techs and parts men at the dealer where I used to work tested positive and a couple of them got pretty sick.

I did. Despite a 30-hour hunger strike and 10-degrees below normal temperature, I willed my way through it. Quasi-slow jog temp. On the MUP I saw a quasi-fat tandem bicycle. wut Its tyres were obese, but not fully fat.

I just found out my mom, brothers and a sister and their spouses jumped on some extra vaccines that were available through my sisters workplace. Sounds sketchy but I'm not complaining.
Right place right time. Apologies to Dr. John. RIP.
