I knew it! It's those devilish manufacturers, making bikes that are fast and nimble, forcing pros to go ever faster.
But seriously, didn't there used to be a "patron of the peloton", who would scold riders when they went too fast for the conditions?
I don't know about a "patron".

I gave up and did housework. Hoping I didn't fry the expensive vacuum cleaner. It got full and automatically shut off. Now waiting for a "cool down" period of 45 minutes to see if it will revive. If not, I am in deep do-do.

Perfect day for being on the bike. But.
The company delivering the grill sent a message this morning saying they would be here between 11:00 and 2:00. That closed off the morning for a meaningful ride. Just got the call that they are on the way, so that closes out the afternoon.

After the 45 minute cooling off it has roared back to life. Whew! When she moved in she didn't like the vacuum I had and eventually bought the Shark. I tried to talk her out of it but it's her money. I was reluctant to use it for a while but it's a nice machine, I have to admit. Just glad I didn't break it.

For sure zone 5. 5' at zone 6 is not really physiologically doable, certainly not repeatable. When I do these I am for like 115% FTP.
Also my coach told me to aim for 20' of time in zone when doing VO2 workouts - but I was also doing them twice per week which is taxing. 25' is doable, but tough.

Spot on. These are going to be just like the 6x4', just 1 minute longer per interval. In a couple it will be 6x5', 5 minutes rest in between. That's about tops.

You may be thinking of the race I broke my hip, Bill. That was another ****show, where they moved the railing into the course about ten feet on a downhill, blind, 90 degree corner. That was to provide seating for the restaurants along the course. Come to find out, the Fire Chief showed up and asked what in heavens name is going on. They were running short of ambulances.

That is my major *****, and the reason I decided to stop racing. My last race was a total ****show.
We were alerted to the fact that we weren't in our own race but were starting with the 40+3 and Cat 3 racers, at the start/staging area. As a rule, the 60+ field is thinned by attacks, and though that field was certainly depleted, there were enough kids in the pack that it was still too many for a two-lane road with a yellow line rule. Had anyone alerted us to the fact prior, I know there were enough cars and people to provide a follow car for the various groups.
They knew my bell was rung, I knew my collarbone was broken, yet I was still allowed to drive 100 miles home. The broken ribs and the need for a chest tube were discovered later. At least USAC event insurance covered a good portion of the deductible.

After a week (?) Off of running I have returned. I am starting all over from scratch. But at least the groin was ok. When I was younger and ran, I felt light and springy, now I feel heavy and plodding. That sucks. My neighbor must think I'm out of my gourd. Wheezing and gasping as I plod by. As long as I don't have a heart attack. Beats dying on the couch eating ice cream.
