Guzzy water bottle perfect for standard cage

Have been fretting over purchasing the right water bottle for a standard alloy cage a while now, and while a cheap and cheerful bike water bottle is obviously the easiest way to go I decided to take a quick look for the stash of promotional ones I had at home first.

About the first one I found was a Honda branded plastic MyGuzzy bottle and it fits just fine. I did take the filter out because it restricted flow too much and I already use bottled water:

The right water bottle is one that fits and is free.

A proper water bottle is one which fits the lip on the cage so that it is held in place.

This photo shows a bottle properly fitting the lip on a standard cage. Note the tight fit between the bottle and cage at the groove in the bottle.

This photo shows an improperly shaped bottle which does not fit the lip on a standard cage. The groove in the bottle is too high on the bottle and not shaped properly. Such a bottle will tend to eject and this one was relegated to holding solvent for chain cleaning.

The same is true of metal cages. The groove on the bottle needs to engage the top of the cage properly.

I agree. I use old Vitamin Water bottles. They are strong, have the notches in the right place for any bottle cage I've used and they are clear so I can see how much ride time I have remaining before needing to replenish.

When they get to scratched up and ugly outside, I just buy some more Vitamin Water, which goes down much easier for me while hot and riding near threshold than does any other sport drink I've tried.

I also like the wide mouth. I don't care for nipples on bottles as I don't suck and certainly don't like things squirted into my mouth.

Here is a picture. I realize now that I maybe should have used the phrase old school alloy cage rather than saying standard, being as many of the modern cages appear to be nothing like the older ones. And note that I'm not advocating sending the good folks at Guzzy $15 for a bottle. Just that it would be a good idea to keep your eyes out at trade shows and whatnot, because if you need a bottle these are clearly available on the promotional circuit.

Things I like about the bottle - the flip up feeding tube, which to all intents and purposes can probably be left flipped up while riding. Thing I didn't like about the bottle - how restricted the water flow is with the filter in place.

I do like that it is clear. The flip up spout is a nice thing as I sometimes wonder where all the deer scat and other unsanitary stuff I sometimes have to ride through is being splattered. My son says it's just added flavor when I jibe him about his standard biker water bottles with nipples.

Another plus for my bottles that I have to unscrew the top to drink. The lid keeps the part my lips have to touch sanitary.... or so I want to believe.

Yeah... I had to google it.

I have toured a lot in MT and have stayed at several campgrounds under its jurisdiction.
