ISO: Trek OCLV Front Derailleur Hanger (again...)

Hey all,

Once again I'm looking for one of these stupid adapters. I have a workable fix in place right now (filed down clamp on adapter) but I'm considering adding a triple to the bike and will need to be able to mount the derailleur lower. This leaves me with finding a hanger as my only option.

It has to be this type of hanger. I contacted Trek and they sent me out a replacement that won't work with my bike. It has to have the curved rear portion with the point on it.

There has got to be someone out there that has one of these rolling around somewhere.

#253438 front derailleur hanger TREK OCLV Compact - SOS Hanger

Thanks much.

I am in the same boat, again, with another Cannondale. I can't even find a replacement for mine at all. Good luck(in a good way).,,,,BD

The sad part is that 3-4 years ago, I probably could have helped you. We had 3-4 OCLV frames hanging up at the bike shop, that would most likely never be used again..

Those screw-in FD hangers seem to be a weak point on a lot of frames. Not because of the design itself, but every company seemed to have its own type. You'd think they would have made and stocked a bunch of extras but now they are really hard to find. I'm in the same situation with a 1995 Kestrel 200. I tried calling Kestrel dealers but didn't get anywhere with that. I ended up buying a generic FD hanger on Ebay. Of course it didn't have the right dimensions-- the FD sat sideways and pointed down at the rear. But I was able to adapt it-- I drilled new holes in the hanger to mount it to the frame, so that the FD lines up parallel to the chainrings. I also put in a shim on the mounting tab so the bottom edge of the derailleur cage would line up with the teeth of the outer ring. It was a lot of fussing around and is not a perfect solution, but at least I can ride the bike now!

That actually reminds me I know where to get some blanks that I can drill. But I think I may hold out and see if anyone has one before I go through with trying to figure out where the hell to drill the dang things.

The bike functions fine as it is now, so there is no hurry.

Man, I wish I had one of these on hand just for a few days. How much stress are these hangers put under? Would a 60% steel 40% bronze alloy like that found in 3D printable steel like the type offered by Shapeways be strong enough to work reliably? I've printed a duplicate of a Miyata top tube routing plug, but the original was nylon so it was a perfect candidate for 3D printing. I can definitely see a hobby of duplicating long discontinued, hard to find parts and offering them up to the masses at cost. It could help keep these vintage steeds running even longer if it were strong enough.

You think this would work? Just drill and countersink the holes. Looks like it's got a long enough tab behind it.
