...swell sunny day here, so I went for a ride. I'm over at the bike co-op tweaking the brakes on my newly resurrected project, and I decide to go get some coffee. I'm walking on the sidewalk on the south side of I street, which is one way going westbound, so the traffic goes pretty fast (way over the limit) there, trying to make the lights. I'm about five feet short of the driveway entrance to a parking lot, when this woman decides to cut left into it across three lanes of traffic. The guy in the red pickup who is accelerating to pass realizes he has nowhere to go but left, into the parking lot and crosses in front of me (on the sidewalk) at about 20mph standing on his brakes, about at arms length. I just froze. I think there must have been some serious pupillary dilation all around.
I wonder, since I was wearing bike shorts and shoes, if the first responders would have spent some time looking for my bike when they came to pick me up in the morgue wagon.

We're moving north a little this morning but not so far that we couldn't drive back. Might make a nice rainy/cool day trip. Thanks.

I completely agree, but I am never certain that comments like that will be seen as helpful. It could be interpreted as gloating. But it wouldn't be that...would it?

stole your bike
My legs felt like jelly on hills this week after not having been on the bike for almost two months. The facility I managed closed so I was transferred to corporate headquarters which meant no office to store my bike and change in but I've finally sorted everything out and started commuting again this week. The third ride in (yesterday) felt better in terms of cardio levels and my legs felt a bit stronger which was nice but I'll have to do some work to regain past fitness but that's ok; the challenge of doing that can be entertaining. I have some time to rebuild before the warmer weather arrives and I'm pretty determined. The building has in house bike storage and the company has an employee space that's used for exercise classes so I signed up in order to use their showers/changing rooms; it's still not as convenient as having an office but it works.

Just back from a one hour XC ski. It's under snow, but from my survey of the field, I think it will make an excellent CX playground for me.
That is, until some developer puts a bunch of McMansions there. The land around here is pretty valuable and as the real estate market improves, it's likely to happen.
