Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

They should probably write it like this for veterinarians US Dept of Justice.

Makes it seem like no big deal.

And the other way for criminals and watch-list types UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

You'll be fine, they don't care what you look like in jail.

After all, I hear you won't be face-to-face.

@ Heathy The other detail left out was that each team only uses their own balls when on offense. So the fact that 11 Patriot balls were all deflated, and none of the Colts' balls were deflated translates to a potentially clear advantage for the Patriots.

There's NO WAY that 11 footballs would all deflate by themselves, and there's NO WAY somebody would take it upon themselves to do that without the head coach's knowledge. NO WAY!

So who won? The Patriots?

Sounds like they need to change the rules.

How many times do they use the balls?

The NFL should for sure provide the balls. Says I. Who knows nothing whatsoever about football.

You are leaving out the fact that Brady completed 86% of his passes in the second half after his balls were inflated to the proper level.. So seriously, did it matter??? Also the fact that both Dan Marino and Joe Thiesman said they couldn't tell the difference in 2 Ibs per square in in psi may just indicate neither could Brady...Bottom line is does anyone really care and if it was so important then why during games were footballs not randomly checked for air pressure?

Yes, the Pats won. The balls were properly inflated during halftime, and the Pats still outscored the Colts 28-0 in the second half. It really is a non-story - if it were anyone but the Pats, there would be zero uproar. Did you hear the big scandal when the Vikings were caught illegally warming their balls (har har) earlier this year in a cold outdoor game? Nope, you didn't. They did it. They got caught. It was given the deserved amount of scrutiny. It's just that people don't get butt hurt over the Vikes.

And how do only 11 of the 12 get deflated. I don't know how it works, though. Is there any chance the 12th was coincidentally the kicking ball?

Yes, Pats won. They can change the rules all they want. Pats have shown in the past they don't care about the rules. But then again, the head coach of the Seahawks left USC before it was found out that he doesn't care about them either. That's it. Calling it the CheaterBowl now!

And I agree - it made absolutely no difference to the outcome of the game. Pats outplayed the Colts, hands down.

New footballs have a slick surface which makes them extremely hard to grip so teams are allowed to break them in before game use..,

The only real issue is the integrity of the game. Any game. If the rules don't matter, why have them?

Sounds reasonable to me, but like you, I don't know anything about football psi or who's responsibility it is to check.

...how do all these professional athletes get away with handling, warming, and otherwise manipulating (I presume this included scratching) their balls on national television ? #shocked
