Yikes I don't think the couch would even have come to my mind, I thinking the garage, doghouse, etc. Wow, that is painful just to look at. But I bet she is getting the bike of her choice now.

that's a shame, seems like the frame was nicer than the components.
how the heck do you forget you have a bike on your roof, especially when you just came back from the lbs?

Aww, I could see how you could forget about the bike on the rack, I have know so many people who have done this. Thank God for me my car's back trunk is big enough that I can fit my bike inside.

i bet he successfully drove into the garage with the bikes on top hundreds of times in a row. this is probably the result of that one time when he got distracted with something else. sucks.

I like this question that's posted at the bottom of the auction page:

Hi, How much does the bike weigh (including frame). My husband is a welder. Not sure if he could fix the frame or not...but it's worth considering.
I can picture this lady riding the bike down the street with a brace welded on the frame.

Simple. You can't see the bike up there so habit takes over. If you toss the garage remote in the trunk when you put a bike on the roof, you will avoid this little problem.

Somewhere I saw a thing for sale. This "thing" as I call it was basically a bright six inch high orange sign that said "BIKE ON ROOF." It was (or still is) magnetic and you stick that "thing" right in front of your face on the hood of the car to remind you... well, you get the idea.

Maybe I'll start putting a photo of that Lemond on my steering wheel when my bike is on the roof rack.

And if he keeps his car in the garage, logic dictates that the bikes are in the living room. Maybe he can sleep in the space where her bike used to go...

Did it once... ONCE! Now I throw the garage door opener into the back seat when I get in the car after putting my bike on the top. Did it all last year just fine but once is all it takes especially when it's not your normal routine and you're sleepy.

The simple solution to never having this problem is getting a hitch rack. Is it that much cheaper that you'll risk your precious getting totalkly smoked like that ebay auction guy? Not for me.

that gives me an idea of how I could trick my wife into doing it... then I could get a new frame or bike.

Steel repairs up quite nicely. I'd cut out the bad section and sleeve it. You'd add a few hundred grams, but you can lose that in donuts, especially if the price is right.

peace,
sam

I thought about that but I'd rather be in control of crashing my bike instead of the guy behind me not paying attention during stop and go rush hour traffic.

Edit: Errr... what Crashtest just said.

That is a really good idea. I'm definitely keeping that in mind in case I ever get a roof rack.
