Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Iron Horse Classic Memorial Day weekend

Anyone on the boards heading to Durango for this one? I'm signed up to race with the IV/V's, but I think it's going to be more of a tour for me. It'll be a lot of climbing. Just thought I'd see if any of you fine folks were gonna be there.

I'm signed up for the Cat 5 race, but the longest climb I've done all year is just a couple of miles and doesn't gain a lot of elevation. But, I'm stronger than in years past and I'm getting stronger every week, so we'll see. Definately time to break out the 13-29!

Holy crap that was fun. I came in under my goal for the day, which was to finish in 3:15-3:30. Just barely over 3 hours flat. Molas Pass felt pretty good, but it became a combination of pain and euphoria as I got closer to the top. The downhill into Silverton...what can I say? I had a ****-eating grin for most of it. Great weather this year.

Did I mention that the downhill to Silverton was fun?

Way to go dude! That's a great time for a killer climb. Did you hear what the fastest times were? That's got to be one of the most beautiful road races in the land!!

The IV/V race was won in about 2:30 or so. Same for the III's. Give or take 7 minutes at least. I was surprised that there wasn't much difference between the winning times in those two categories. I think the pros did it in 2:12 or so, just nuts. Saw Ned Overend there but didn't have anything to try to get him to sign. He was 3rd in the pro road race. JHK was there too, I think he took 5th or so.

Hey, making it to Silverton isn't something that too many folks can do at all, so you're all good!

Damn that was a fun race.
