We had about 25 show up for our local ROS event last night (small city). We only rode about 3 miles but no one here had ever done an event like this here before.

Pouring rain last night, and most of the college riders are gone, so I doubt we'd come up with a half dozen riders anyway.

About 100 cyclists participated in the Fort Worth Ride of Silence Wednesday evening, my first time with this group. One of the organizers is Chris Babb, whose daughter Megan -- a competitive cyclist and Olympic hopeful -- was killed while training in 2011.
It was pretty well organized and traffic safety was handled by a combination of volunteer cat herders and a city bicycle mounted police officer. They managed to herd us all safely through several busy intersections. I wrote most of my thoughts in this thread.
Here's a short video by one participant that demonstrates it pretty well.

I quit going to the local one (Arlington Heights IL) after the decision was made to go down a heavily traveled road with no warning. I was told by the organizer that having a automobiles wait for a group of bicyclists to run a red light and then obstruct their travel was a way to increase positive awareness for bicycling in the community.

I appreciate the sentiment and awareness raising, but I had to chuckle a bit at this line on their site:
