Well, the subject says it all. He needed medical treatment, but he seems to be much more depressed about wrecking his precious (and expensive) Bianchi. Any ideas on how to make him feel better?

Give him a gift card to his favorite LBS?

Buy him an expensive Bianchi and an associated insurance policy.

No idea.

Is the guy on sound economic footing and capable of replacing the bike? Is he down on his heels and the Bianchi was a price possession which he can't replace? Are you talking about hooking him up w/ another bike or a trinket/curio "hope this helps a little bit" sort of gift?

I doubt he can afford another bike like the one he lost, although he's perfectly capable of purchasing some bike. As for me, I can't afford buying him a bike. I'm looking for something small to make him feel better. A gift card sounds good. Would love to hear more ideas. Thanks!

Any bike coops in your area?

If there is, here's a thought - see what's involved in building a bike @ the coop. Then take him out to dinner and present him w/ the fruits of your research.

I, too, really like the LBS gift card idea.

I like the LBS gift card idea. He can use it toward a new bike or gear.

A copy of the 1989 Tour. https://www.amazon.com/1989-Tour-Fran...+de+france+dvd

Lemond had been nearly killed in a hunting accident two years earlier and his comeback was an inspiration that any rider could use.

I lost my beloved Bridgestone RB-1, circa 1980, when hit by a car in June this year. Unfortunately, I also cannot ride the same way as I did prior to the accident and since haven't ridden even my beater bike, or a rental (we have Bike-Share in Boston), and I was well on the way to over 5000 miles this year. While it's sad, I don't expect anything but empathy for my loss. I do anticipate some settlement to buy a new bike depending on my recovery, but that will await the outcome of further rehabilitation a few months from now.

Meanwhile, I hope your friend was not seriously injured or impaired by his accident. A healthy rebound from a crash is a priceless gift.

Get him a sweet new helmet. You'll be showing him you care about his safety and it will be one less thing he'll have to replace/rebuy after he recovers.
