robertorolfo I'm completely passing on it since the tubing may be Aelle. I sold my Aelle Torelli to upgrade and the red Basso won't cut it. It's all yours thru ebay

2 Classic Miyata Touring bikes for the Price of 1: Highest Quality - $325

Posted 2020-07-03 16:46

"Are you a new or experienced cyclist looking for a quality bike at a price that won't break the bank? I have two for sale at an attractive price that could be just what you are looking for.

Ask around and you'll find that experienced cyclists agree that the Japanese Miyata touring /road bikes from the 1980's are some of the best bikes ever made. Miyata has been manufacturing quality bicycles since 1890. In the mid-1980s, the 610s were introduced with triple-butted splined Chromoly frame tubing--an unusually high quality tubing and construction for its price level. The 610 model is one slight step below the 1000 model, which is arguably the best production touring bike built in the 1980s. These bikes can still beat any of today's high-end touring bikes. For example, the Miyata 610 is slightly lighter in weight than Trek 520/720 touring bikes (~$1,500), but of similar quality. The Miyata 610 are great for commuting, running around town or long range bike tours.

Now you can own two of these classic bikes for the price of 1. The bikes are in good repair and ready to ride (I just professionally wrapped the handlebars with the highest quality Cinelli cork tape). Both are 15 speed with Suntour derailleurs. Bike 1 has 53-54 cm frame--good for most riders with heights between 5'6" to 5'8". Bike 2 has a 56-58 cm frame--good for most riders with heights between 5’10” and 6’ 0”. Both bikes have 27” wheels.
I am really sad to part with these fine bikes for a lot less than they are worth--I simply have more bikes than I can store and use.

Most 610s are priced on eBay at $300+ in good condition. I am pricing both of these for $325.00. Please email me with questions or to come see.

bicycle frame material: alloy

bicycle type: road
frame size: 53-54 and 56-58
make / manufacturer: Miyata
model name / number: 610
wheel size: 27 in"

In case anyone else here is hesitating on ordering the Basso, it might be worth considering despite the Aelle tubing, if that's what it turns out to have been built with.

Bicycle Guide did a review of six frames, all built with difference sets of Columbus tubing, all built in the Mondonico frame-building shop (if I remember correctly, which I might not). The frames were numbered but not otherwise identified, so the test riders had no idea which were built with, e.g., Columbus SL and which with Aelle or Zeta.

The tallied votes showed that the Aelle-tubed bike was preferred by a small majority of the riders.

I was unable to find the article on line, so if someone has a link to a PDF, I'd love to see it again.

Also, as a single data point, I owned a Bianchi Eco Pista from 1983 until it was stolen 20 years later, and of all my steel bikes, I'd say it was my favorite.

Looks like a 55cm? This one might be worth pursuing at a discount. Seller doesn't know what they have, and it will need work.

The position of those qr levers make me suspect the seller treats them like wing nuts, not cams.

Gotta agree this is something special: A Sycip Bros.joint (and Phil branded, wonder if made in SF or in Santa Rosa?) But one point I dispute: there may be no "proper" way to spell a SoCal slang term, but when I were a wee lad I first saw it in print in a hand-out local radio-station fanzine and the writer spelled it "*****en" with an "e". And so it will always be, IMHO

later 80s Schwinn Prelude in southern NH for low dollars: https://nh.craigslist.org/bik/d/keen...153445497.html

For those of you who like your 80s bikes free of laser or Trapper Keeper graphics. Who knew they painted these a flat grey? I thought the customer could get one in any color he likes, as long as it's yellow and purple with squiggly green lines...

I'd be on my way if it'd fit me. It would fit my theme...

I lust after a Tange Ultimate Kona Hot but this seems just as good.

https://seattle.craigslist.org/est/b...153493101.html

Kona Hei Hei Titanium MTB - $650 (Sammamish)

The original cross country race bike! I picked this bike up from the Kona factory in Ferndale back in 1996. I'm not sure I've loved a bike as much before or since, but I haven't ridden it for 10-15 years since it is a little small for me. (I am 6'0".) The 19" titanium frame was built by Sandvik. Shimano XTR front and rear derailleurs, Magura Blue hydraulic rim brakes (bleed kit and fluid included), Chris King hubs. The original shock was replaced with a Marzocchi Marathon SL. I also have some replacement Hei Hei decals.

Today was good for "pricy but awesome vintage MTBs" on Seattle CL
