Procured battery for shorter rides or a spare for longer ones. Arrived yesterday (14s, 1p, 21800 cells, $195 including tax, free shipping). Charged it for BBS02 system and went on an eight mile off road ride. Final voltage was 52.0 suggesting that 40% of capacity (1.6 ah) was consumed, so used about 10 wh per mile.There's a voltage meter on my display, so won't allow it to go below 45V or so (20%). The battery is approximately 3" X 3" X 5" and 3 or so pounds (will weigh someday) and fits nicely with lots of insulation in a seat bag. Pictures soon.

Pictures of seat bag and battery enclosure if anyone is interested. I'm figuring 10 wh per mile for off road, so the battery should be sufficient for 15 mile 2,000' - 3,000' ascent rides.

It will accommodate only one, but there's room for a lot of insulation which (to me) is important for fairly severe off road conditions..

What the heck kind of cell gives 4AH at 1p? Do you know what is inside?
I'm slightly skeptical, but battery power density is always getting better and better.

Look on ebay for 52V, 4 ah; if you can't locate it there I'll look up my paperwork. Thought you were the one who first talked about the 21800 cells which are its composition (14s, 1p). The 21800 (21 mm diameter, 80 mm length) may be the "new" size.

Tested out the battery today. Charged to 58.8V, then rode 10 miles (16.7 km) on flat ground level 3 (of 9) on my BBS02-powered MTB. Averaged about 10 mph around neighborhood on flat ground, no wind, 180 pound rider, 45 pound bike. Used about 104 wh, so around 10 wh per mile. Tomorrow will test on 10 miles of pretty severe off road.

Luna's wolf pup is 52V 4 AH and uses 21700 cells, claims same as Tesla uses. 4 pounds. At $249 a bit more expensive but a top quality unit.

That would have been my choice, but they've been sold out for awhile and Luna said they may not manufacture that size again. They had a 52V, 6 ah battery, also discontinued.

Huh, interesting. Good to know about this cell type, I wasn't familar with it.
(I did ask the founder of Luna if he would do a pocket battery the same size as the 52V6ah around the time he started that business. At the time he didn't want to futz with 36v batteries, but I guess he liked the idea of 3lb battery. I ended up having EM3ev make me the battery).

Rode 11.2 miles off road on one of my usual trails. Quick hour or so jaunt with maybe 600' of ascent (but a guess). Used 2.2 wh, so again about 10 wh per mile. Trying a 15 mile loop tomorrow and if there's anything different, I'll report it. Otherwise I've bored you sufficiently.
