Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best Way to Cut Sleeves off Jersey

I want to cut sleeves off one of my older jerseys. Which side of the seam should I cut on?

Can’t you just roll up the sleeves?

If you get no good answers here you could ask in the tri sub-forum.

No self-respecting triathlete would modify anything when they could just go buy a new sleeveless jersey.

That said, I had this done to my Cycling magazine Cadillac jersey (it doesn't fail the above because I paid a seamstress to do it for me). There's no reason to include a piece of the sleeve that you're cutting off; cut off above the seam and then hem the edge from there. But it'll look bad and fray quickly unless you know what you're doing.

Above the seam results in a larger tax deduction.

Stating the obvious but you might ask this in the Triathlon section since road (or mtb) cyclists don't wear sleeveless jerseys. Women of course excepted.

The best way to remove the sleeves from a jersey is to burn them off with a cigarette – it reinforces the rebel image.

Sleeveless jerseys are designed to be sleeveless. They are not just jerseys without sleeves. (AFAIK.)

As far as to which seam, it doesn't seem like you have an option.

It's an odd look (for a guy) . In my opinion.

It's a relative scale.

If everybody is dressed oddly, then no one is.

Road cyclists don't wear sleeveless? Assos, Castelli, Pearl Izumi, Capo, et.al. will be surprised to know that.

Sleeveless jerseys have hems - so presumably you want to approximate that look.
And you don't want the arm holes to come unraveled, so I suggest cutting downstream of the sleeve seam.
This is an especially good look with arm warmers.
And come back with photos when you're done.

I figure they make those for triathletes Anyway, OP, if you really want to do this, cut a couple of inches below the hem, pick it out so you have a cute fringe! And shave that pit hair. If you are compelled to display your under arms, don't make folks look at a hairy dripping mess

In my area the fastest dude over age 50, and one of the fastest local guys, period, usually wears sleeveless jerseys. AFAIK, he's not a tri-guy, just a typical roadie enthusiast. His name shows up in more local KOMs and top tens than anyone else. And he makes it look effortless. I've ridden with him a few times, when I can keep up. Closest thing I've see to Jacques Anquetil's toe-down pedaling style, a powerful natural time trilaist.

I'm considering a sleeveless jersey just to get more sun. I have persistent low vitamin D and bone density loss, no matter how much vitamin D, calcium and supplements I take.

I started riding sans sunscreen last year and was surprised to discover I don't sunburn anymore. Changing my diet, omitting most sugar, and losing weight seems to have changed something. I used to burn red within 15 minutes. Not any more. So I'm going to try a sleeveless jersey to get a little more sun.
