Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Ideal gravel grinding

Hey I'm new to the competitive side of this concept. I live in North Dakota, and just heard of a gravel race in May. I'm seriously considering entering, but I have a few questions: Does anyone gravel grind with a single speed? I only ask because the closest bike I have to being gravel ready is a single speed road bike with wider tires. The primary surface of the roads in this race is crushed scoria, which is really sharp around here, especially if it was just put down. We won't know the road conditions until just before the race.

Do any of the rest of you do these competitively?

ND sounds like its getting to be like the Old West but with Oil Boom the countryside is left Toxic.

Gravel grinding to what size?
Quarter Minus Gravel Means the largest stones are Quarter Inch Diameter ..
its done with screens when the road Builder specifies the material put in the trucks

in the Suppliers site.

Hey fietsbob, I'm not talking about literally grinding gravel. "Gravel grinders" are races held on gravel roads. Gravel grinder is also a term used for bikes that people use primarily on gravel roads, so a gravel grinder would either be an event, or a bicycle, depending on who it is that's saying it.
