Trek price increase
I just got an email from my local Trek dealer that they are facing a mandatory price increase on all bikes as of 11/8. How much of an increase isn't mentioned, but I imagine it's going to be a "are you sitting down?" kind of increase.
If you've been looking at a Trek, and can find the model and size you want in stock, now may be the time to pull the trigger.

Sounds to me like the dealer is trying to scare up some sales -- literally.
At the moment, it all comes down to inventory. Most folks won't have much choice when to purchase.

Prices for just about everything have been going up. Why would bikes be any different?

When my suppliers quote a price at the moment it's usually only good for 48 hours. Every item we purchase has had a minimum of 2 increases this year.

I bought a pair of Weber carbs in May for $400. I bought the same carbs in August for $475. In October the same carbs were $550.
The cost of building the same engine has increased 30% in the past year... and that's if I even get the parts.

I had the local dealer order me a *very* expensive Trek in September. Is that in under the wire even though it’s not due for delivery until April?

I went ahead and paid for my wheels at the time, so I got the price., I think if you put a deposit down, you should get the price based on when you ordered. Could be sketchy if you did not.

I wonder if anyone is in the boat of having ordered/deposited on eg. a 11 speed Di2 bike, but they never get your bike made before the 12s versions are shipping? Order cancelled or pony up for 12s nearest neighbor model?

... and yes, inventory constraints will affect those whose choices aren't available in their area.

A Specialized FS mountain bike that sold for $4,200 in February is now selling for $4,700. That's an annualized price increase of 22 percent. I decided to buy the alloy version instead and save $1200.
A lot of this is from shipping costs from Asia which have increased tremendously. Items we bought in 2021 with shipping cost of $600 is now costing us $3800 for the same amount of product. We are also paying the Trump tariff which makes products from China 25% more expensive and this amounts to a federal tax on consumers. Container trucking costs have increased by more than 200% in the past year and it is greed based as the port drivers do not even get the minimum wage in California.
In buying 4 new bikes this past year my decision as to which to buy was largely determined by what was actually available in my size and my wife's size. When only a couple bikes are available to buy it does make the decision as to which to get a lot easier to make.

I paid $1200 for a new wheelset in August. Those same wheels are now priced at $1327.
I still do not have said wheels. They were supposed to arrive in mid-October. One shipped last week, the other... probably on a boat somewhere.

Similar point but with bigger implications - Shimano is going to stop making mechanical 11sp Ultegra in 2022. So, if you order a mechanical Ultegra bike (there are a lot of builds out there with this groupset) and it doesn't get assembled before that happens, do you have to downgrade to 105? Or pay a lot more for 12sp Ultegra Di2?

A contract is a contract. All I will say is that if I did leave a deposit, I'd definitely want something in writing that spells out the terms, including every condition under which I can get back my deposit if I desire, as well as under what circumstances, if any, the price and/or specific trim level or model of bike may be substituted, etc.

Accessories Too
I just stopped by the local Trek store to check the status on our ordered Verves. We had ordered duotraps lights and kickstands; but not helmets. The store confirmed on the items we had ordered, the old price would be honored. They have increased the pricing on the bikes in the store but not the accessories yet. The website shows the increases on the accessories and they confirmed they just hadn't adjusted those in the store.
We picked up the helmets today to save the $10 each in case they change the in store items before we go back to get the bikes. They are supposed to be in by the end of the month. They said my wife's will be here a week before mine.

Port drivers run the gamut.
Some make low 6 figures, some not much.

Container trucking costs have not increased due to greed from port drivers not receiving minimum wage.
That is such a confusing relation that it was difficult to even type.
