I just picked up my Surly Pugsley on Friday and test rode it today (we have a metric c--pton of snow in Grand Rapids). I declare it fit for commuting duty tomorrow morning!

looks like whatever is coming through now is going to miss us for the most part. My fatbike doesn't have lights, so it's not going to work for a commuter

I rode at the start of the storm on Saturday night and will definitely be off and rolling tomorrow on the ice/slow/slush mix. Another day in the winter wonderland of New England.

Going to be 80+ here tomorrow but i can't ride.

I love riding over ice patches and through snow. I get an incredible work out, often my arms are as tired as my legs by the time I get home. And the delight of being warm on a sub-freezing night is one of life's least known pleasures.
Not that it can't suck, too. Getting a flat or a mechanical breakdown when it's -5 F and blowing hard in your face can turn it into an episode of Survivor in an instant.

Meh, you can keep your incredible workout when there's 8 inches of wet, unplowed crap on the road.
I do like riding in the cold and in moderate amounts of snow, say up to 2 inches, especially if it's good and cold, then maybe up to 4 inches or so. More than that, and it's unplowed, or if the snow is wet and sticks to the tires and is fighting me, meh, I'll just drive. That's only maybe 10 days a year.

I think "stoked, psyched and prepped" would be over-stating it by quite a lot but I was looking forward to reasonable temperatures again! And so it proved.
54 Def.F when I left the house, down to 50 even by the time I got to the Metro station. Overall though, a fine SoCal morning commute. Should be in the low 70's by the time I ride home.

I was excited about NOT commuting at all today but taking the day off to spend with the family enjoying a local historical site.
Only both my wife and I forgot to check the schedule and the historical site is closed on Mondays. So cool thing is that Monday are the worst day of the week at work and I am at home with the family. Hoping to ride later in the week. Maybe I can just take a pleasure cruise this afternoon.

actually in NJ, not too bad... yesterday, I got a ride in and it was something like high 40's / low 50's and no wind...
this morning temp was 30*F with 10 mph winds... it didn't bother me until I hit headwinds and my toes actually got a bit chilly (first time for me)... by the time I got back it was up to 33*F...

I know this might seem crazy to our brethren in more temperate climes but there is something wondrous in the challenge of a wintry weather commute. We only got a 50 degree morning today and people have that strained look on their face like they are freezing when walking from their car to the office building. I often don't ride on Monday's, but today was the best challenge all fall/winter so far so I donned my windbreaker at 6:30 and headed out into it. I take what I can get!

I would have been stoked, and had my bike all ready to go, but I got sick this weekend. I will give it a day or two of rest to abate, but after that I'm just going to keep riding and my body will have to deal with it.

Yes, it is and a brutal one to say the least. 12in of fresh snow and -4degF, much lower wind chill to boot. Terrible if not outright dangerous commuting weather today. Put the bike away for now. First time in 5 years I had to do that. Waiting for mid to late week until this arctic blast breaks away.

I'm s'd, p'd and p'd because the Cape weather is supposed to be warm and dry for the for seeable future! I like riding in the snow, cold and all, but this is going to be great! The kids and grandkids and I will take a bunch of old iron, may be some aluminum out on the Canal road over the holidays!
