legal size for bicycle trailer NYC

Those a bicycle trailer need to be a certain size for it to be road legal in NY or NJ ,i read some where it can't be more than 12" wide, but i cant find anything official for length and width.I am planing a touring/camping trip to bear mountain, and would like to know any legal problems that i could encounter.

I won't comment on the legal aspect since I'm not familiar with the laws (as far as I know, none exist, but don't take my word for it), but I can't imagine a cop stopping you unless you're pulling a trailer the size of a small car.

For NY city, I would ask the NYC DOT:

https://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/con...t/assist.shtml

For NY state, I don't believe there is any such limit.

I've never seen anything that says that. Why would there be a limit to trailer width of 12" when your bike handle bars is already bigger than that? Please provide a link if you have one.

I don't know if there is a legal limit, but I see people towing their kids in trailers that are much wider than 12" all the time.

A Burley is about 3' wide. My kids rode around in one behind me or my wife for five or six years. Nobody gave us any grief.

I really wouldn't worry about it.

You must have that 12" figure wrong. That's just ridiculously small.
