Apparent http link fail

Looks like when you post a link to an http URL, the forum software automagically morphs it to https. For sites that don't use https, that breaks the link.

Q&D workaround - use the [ url=https:..... ] ... [ /url ] tag format. But that's a PITA, and it's unlikely most members would think to try such a thing.

It's because unsecured links posed a security threat. But can you link me to the one that was giving you trouble?

You can reproduce it at will. Turns out it depends on whether you use the "go advanced" feature. In this reply, I'm using "go advanced", and the links will fail. My previous hypothesis was wrong, it doesn't matter whether you hand-key the URL tag or let the software auto-parse. Both these links will fail, because the link site does not use https, but the forum software appends the "s", creating a bad link.

Test auto-parse: https://www.disraeligears.co.uk

Test with hand-keyed URL tag: Test link

Stand by, and I'll post another reply here, but this time I won't use the "go advanced" feature, and it will not append the "s" and the link will work.

Test - quick reply - not using "go advanced", let's see if it preserves the url:

Test auto-parse - https://www.disraeligears.co.uk

Test hand-link - Test link
