This is probably going to out me as middle aged but with C4s being so cheap I'm really tempted to pick one up.

Nothing wrong that a half hour with a repo saw couldn't fix.

The worst ones were the generation before this, they quit making them because they were so badly designed. And that's saying a lot for GM in the early 80's.

I like the C4 as a fun, buildable car for a decent deal. It's a good chassis, and it's hard to complain about a Chevy V8. Very 80's looking, but you get a somewhat practical, reliable, RWD sports car with good power and a very high ceiling.

That one, however, is sad.

Plastidip spray....Good thing / Bad thing. I was at a car show where someone made a very poor copy of the KITT Firebird. I was stunned with a look of horror on my face and the owner approached me to show off his car. The car was a complete POS but the owner was over the top proud of it. Life is stranger than fiction....fiction has to make sense.

C4s are taking their place, following in the footsteps of the C1, C2 and C3. Their values hit bottom in 2013. The nice ones, in excellent condition are now beginning to inch upward in value. If they follow the path of all the previous Corvettes, they will increase in value each year. Buying a late C4 with an LT1 motor, the 1992 to 1996 years, might be a good move for someone wanting a low priced Vette that looks like it might appreciate in the foreseeable future. The trick is to find one with low mileage, under 60K, at a good price, under $10K in exceptional condition. They're still out there, but how much longer is hard to say. The LT1 motor in those years has 300HP. When the Optispark system is set up correctly, which is not easy, it's a handful with enough power to get plenty of respect. I seriously looked at several before deciding to buy the C5 I currently own.
Of course, the pic of the disaster that the OP posted, is one of those unfortunate examples that would be better off parked on a railroad track minutes before a heavy freighter comes through and takes it out of its misery.

They've been talking up a mid-engine Corvette as long as I can remember. It will never happen.

For what it's worth, it's all over the Corvette Forums. There is speculation that GM is going to come out with a very expensive, mid-engine Corvette. Sort of like the Porsche Boxter and the top end Porsche. The Stingray would be the less expensive Vette and the mid-engine car will have a new name and be the top end vehicle. There is also some speculation that Corvette will be spun off from Chevrolet and marketed as a separate brand. Like you, I've been reading about a mid-engine Vette going back to the seventies. IMHO, the current front engine, rear transmission set-up is ideal. I think it handles awesome. However, I would like to see Corvette spun off as it's own entity, no longer a Chevrolet.

The new Vette is awesome. First time I was ever tempted to buy one. It would be a Z06, black or Carbon with all red brake, fin, intake coloring. The Batmobile reincarnate. I personally think the C4 is a better sharper looking car then the C5, way too round and bulbous IMHO, although I wouldn't turn one down
