I finally got my Ciocc Erocia ready. so i took it out for a ride i would normally ride on my CF bike. all Erocia compliant, except i used my powertap pedals and cleated shoes, since i wanted power values too for training purposes. roughly half the distance, a third of the climbing, and none of the gravel roads i will see in April, but i went from trepidation to confidence. so a winning day in all!

20 shakedown miles for the Nishiki Maxima today. Third ride of the week and I can feel the fitness already coming back. Nowhere near where it was a few years ago but definitely better. Zero adjustments needed - just a fun ride watching all the new calves that have been born in the last month.

I got the old Super Course out on a 12 mile wildflower ride in the hills north of us. I found a half block in the Porter Ranch area of SoCal that the developers haven't paved and built over, but a new strip mall is building just across the street from this little field. Sad.

A friend had his son and daughter out from Colorado and wanted to do a ride. Beautiful day. As we sat for a couple of tacos in PT Richmond, another rider asked if he could borrow a pump. He had tubeless tires and there was some sealant seeping by the bead. I pointed it out and he replied it had only been losing about ten pounds a night. I told him he needed to market that as a dietary supplement...

Warm and sunny day! I decided to take it easy today and document a ride of the entire Snoqualmie Valley Trail which stretches 31 miles from Rattlesnake Lake, northwards to the town of Duvall.
My neighborhood is just off the trail, east of the town of North Bend. I access the trail and head southwards for 5 miles up the trail to Rattlesnake Lake.
Just 2 miles into the ride, I start to see snow.

Soon, the snow gets deeper, covering the whole trail and I have to walk my bike. A mile of walking thru snow and I am bail at the first opportunity I get and ride the paved road that parallels to trail.

Hi, remember me? If not, no worries, I haven't been riding much. We bought a house last year and that was only one of several things that distracted me from riding.
I got a quick 15 mile ride in this evening on my Raleigh Marathon, converted to an upright cruiser with a two-speed kickback hub.

Foggy damp 46 mile club ride to Malibu from Camarillo on the old Legnano. I was the only one riding vintage steel. Had a chain suck while in a 15 person pace line, which was interesting at 25 mph. I guess my 5 speed frame isn't happy with the 6 speed freewheel I tried to stuff in there. Needs more tweaking. Nice ride though, without that pesky California sunshine.😀

To celebrate the first day of spring, here's...a dark black and white picture on a bit of a dreary day.
Thankfully it was around 50°, but I was threatened with rain for the last half of my 37 miles today. It feels nice to notice my fitness coming back from it's winter break.
I'm spending a lot of time on the big Trek lately, and it's really starting to get dialed in fit-wise.

Out, yesterday, on the Ersatz Gran Prix (Gitaine f/f with bits and bobs from 30 other bikes) which is one of my winter bikes. Oaks, Pa through VF Park to the Chester Valley trail. 41 miles RT under sunny skies, wind out of the west and ~ 45deg. Very nice pooter on the old wreck. There is one hillock in Valley Forge Park, near the National Arch, that has been giving me trouble all winter - leg cramps 2/3 the way up. Yesterday it was just up and over and gone. Not bad for late March. I could be ready, in time, to chase jimmuller on the CCRT, especially if he actually has NOT been riding much all winter.
As usual, too winded and knackerd to stop for photos. Boring old bike and leafless scenery anyway.

I celebrated the arrival of spring yesterday with my first century of the year.
The route I used highlight the remarkable regional trail system in King County here in Western Washington.
Nearly all of this is on trails. For those familiar with the area (in case you’d like to try this sometime) the trails I stitched together are:
Snoqualmie Valley Trail, Snoqualmie Ridge Trail system, Preston-Snoqualmie Trail, Issaquah-Preston Trail, Lake Sammamish Trail, SR520 Trail, Burke Gilman Trail, and the Sammamish River Trail.

I had just installed some tough touring tires on the bike (35mm Schwalbe Marathon Mondial DD) and wanted to check em out. They roll really well on pavement - felt fast and smooth despite the pronounced tread of the tires but on rougher gravel they are harsher than what I am used to with Compass and Panaracer Gravel Kings that I’ve used on the bike before. I suspect this may be due to a stiffer sidewall which is what I want when riding fully loaded.

I had just installed some tough touring tires on the bike (35mm Schwalbe Marathon Mondial DD) and wanted to check em out. They roll really well on pavement - felt fast and smooth despite the pronounced tread of the tires but on rougher gravel they are harsher than what I am used to with Compass and Panaracer Gravel Kings that I’ve used on the bike before. I suspect this may be due to a stiffer sidewall which is what I want when riding fully loaded.
