Addiction 2021.1

Notices
Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Going to be warm and sunny today, but, unsurprisingly, SW with a gale warning. One more day of VO2max intervals won't kill me.

2 w/Kg for more than a few minutes is more than my 69-3/4 y.o. body can do.

I better have another cup of coffee to soothe my soul.

My best, since I started measuring at age 63, was a little over 3.3. I would love to think that implies it was 4 when I was a yout'. I was a better runner and my VO2max estimates were pretty decent in my 40s.

If only there was some way to make my body recover faster before each ride. Even going slow my legs are screaming, but im so close to my goal and I only have 3 days left.

Are you getting a good slug (≥ 20 g) of easily absorbed protein and some quick carbs soon after each ride? It's pretty essential for efficient recovery.

Prolly!

I still have hopes of getting to 4. This week, I started weighing myself in earnest again. I've only gained about 2 lbs from when I stopped weighing myself in the fall, so I'm happy with that and 80kg by April or so should be relatively easy. That'll get me close, but closing the gap by eeking out some more watts and dropping a few more kg could be a challenge.

I'd need to get to 310, which is probably a stretch.

In addition to the above, post-ride foam roller sessions helped me tremendously, too. The sessions will prolly hurt like hell for a couple weeks, but they always provided me with immediate relief and made sleep easier, which is all-important for recovery.

Does yogurt and peanut butter count? If not then the answer is no.

Usually ill make hot oatmeal with whole milk and mix peanut butter in it. If I have honey ill add that. Yogurt on the side with a banana.

Good luck! We'll be watching on Intervals. I'd love to hit 3.4 this summer, but via power, not weight.

That's the region that I'd need to get to, too. Without any real training last riding season, and with a late start to daily riding, Intervals had me in the 280s, so I think that could eek out some more if I can be disciplined about adding some structured rides to the mix.

Most likely not, but you can look your portion size at the nutritionals on the packages and calculate it. Whey protein is the most complete and efficient way to go. You should also look at your daily protein intake and make sure it matches the requirements for an athlete of your weight and age.

If I can get to 74KG (at 77 now) I'd only need 300. Honestly I think I can get there with the additional time I'm putting in and upping my tolerance for suffering.

I'm down 20 LBs since 1/4 with only 2 LB of muscle loss

It's not about the power numbers, but the number of clocks you clean on the road.

When I'm feeling lazy or weak-willed in the face of cheesecake, I will feel your withering, though-the-internets stares and accept them as motivational accountability.
