Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rides like a dream, best word to describe is nimble. Really pleased with the feel, took it climbing last Sunday and had a gas with it. Put a 13-29 on the rear cog, live in a pretty hilly area and having the extra couple teeth really helps.

I did the same with my 461. Glad I'm not the only one.

What are those things you have on the top tubes near the bars. Shaving mirrors?

It's been a while since I showed off my clean bike. It's not quite this clean any more though.

Gorgeous 585! I'm planning to purchase one, and leaning towards the white CA paint. Good choice.

Very nice bike. Just finished my pre-breakfast 40k on my 585 and I agree completely with your comments - it really is a bike that does everything well (especially if it's a black one ). I'd love to have a 461 to complement the 585 as you have.

How do you like the Ksyrium ES? I've just ordered a pair and wondering what the ride is like. How do they compare with the Ksyrium SLs?

And what exactly is that mezzaluna shaped thing on your top tube?

Nothing like an old fashioned true razor shave while you ride.. although the guy behind you might birtch about the stray cream..

Heck of a good mirror, around $14. Delta Mirror

It's not tipped back very much. I run a carpenter's level across the length of the saddle (per manufacturer's instructions) and I set it to be level (with wheels on level ground) and then tip it up at the front a very small fraction of a degree (the bubble never leaves the center area of the level). This is pretty much what I have done for my saddles for years.

Of course it's kind of hard to see that the saddle is level with the back wheel up in the air.

Here's my 585 -- "Mirabelle" -- gotta have a French name for a French bike right? I'm not a big fan of all black bikes but it sort of turned out that way thanks to most carbon being black these days. With that said, I'm loving these other white 585s I'm seeing! Those are sweet! I wish they had those available last year when I built mine up.

Mirabelle is light like a lady, 15.2 as shown...

Those white 585s are certainly gorgeous. How about something slightly older:

Here's an even older specimen.

I picked up frameset, headset, and seatpost used and in great condition. I'm pretty sure I like the white saddle and bar tape combo but am undecided on the whether a silver or black stem would look best.

Click picture to see a bigger version.

i think the black stem looks better. the silver doesn't look like it goes with anything, but it could just be the picture.

Thanks, that's what I'm thinking too. If I'd gone with the silver stem, finding a silver micro-adjust (like Thomson or American Classic) seatpost in 25.0mm is nearly impossible plus I'd need silver wheels too.

Glad you're recovering from the crash, it looks like a bad one.
