Eggnog
Hey foo,
Share your favorite eggnog recipe! Or your favorite mixers or spices.
For eight years I’ve been making the Jeff Morgenthaler recipe, though I have not tried this tequila-sherry version and really ought to. I’ve done the Sailor Jerry and brandy version many times. I’ve made it in a few sizes. It’s very creamy and rich and eggy and spicy and boozy, and fortunately not at all gooey. It’s raw, but the alcohol takes care of that. Because of that it’s 100 octane, too.

Just a splash of rum for me.
Sherry in egg nog? That might work. There's already enough spice in most egg nogs, a little sherry with some fruity flavoring might be a good addition. gonna have to try that if I can find some egg nog. Come to think of it, cognac might work, too
FWIW: I went into two supermarkets this weekend and they're all out of egg nog! There's a spot on the dairy cooler shelves in both places, but both were empty. The store staff at both places said its sells quickly when they put it up on the shelves. I guess its the new 'toilet paper'?

The aging thing is interesting, but I've never tried it, except making in advance for a party. I read several articles before I posted that one so I don't remember if it's the one where he says you don't have to, except overnight helps the most. You can definitely drink it right away and it will be delicious. How could it not? It's eggs cream sugar booze.
I forgot to mention, I usually cut the sugar by a third.

Eggnog
Yuck!

You gonna eat that?
I buy pre-made eggnog and pour it over rum. I like seasonal treats (pumpkin spice being the exception) but I'm too lazy to put a lot of effort into them.

Southern Comfort has a pretty good nog. I've tried it with bourbon also but prefer rum.

Hondo Gravel , can you identify your objection? Sweetness, consistency, egg flavor, milk flavor, alcohol flavor?
I used to like the carton kind when I was a kid but since I made the recipe above I haven’t bothered with anything else since. Because it’s totally raw there’s no custard viscosity going on.

Eggnog is a Christmas tradition with my brothers & I that started when my Dad was alive. 2 parts eggnog to 1 part Southern Comfort in these small Buffalo cups. Sweet on sweet so a little goes a long way

Most of the big-brand name egg nogs are pretty 'flat' when it comes to taste. If you've got a local supermarket chain in your area see if they have their own brand of egg nog. I've got one in my area and their house brand is really good; just the right amount of spices in the mix. If you're in an area with Mexican/Latino supermarkets they usually have some good ones around Christmas time, too.

I grew up in a household where alcohol was taboo and eggnog consisted of eggs, whole milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla, with nutmeg sprinkled on top.
The thing about kids that grow up in alcohol-free households, when they're cut loose they have no concept of moderation. So when I want eggnog I just drink a stout.

This thread reminded me of Tom and Jerry mix, which I haven't had for decades. It's a spin-off from eggnog. I thought it might be more of a Wisconsin thing since brandy is more of a thing here than the rest of the country...the [brandy] Old Fashioned is a staple here.
