Took my 78 year old mother to get vaccinated today. The unproved Moderna vaccines. 60 years of smoking government approved tobacco hasn’t killed ya seriously any vaccine ain’t gonna kill ya either! Anyways it was orderly no problems no foolish people and everyone was cool. Just how I expect people in South Texas to be Example of how the rest of our nation should behave. Don’t make Abuela angry bad things can happen.
The 2nd dose on Feb 10 my mom is scheduled for so that is cool. All precautions taken before will still be implied ya know wash your hands and wear the mask because it ain’t over.

Total chaos here in Southern California/Los Angeles area. On line and phone-up appointments need to be made, but both channels are overloaded and backed up. The few 'supercenter' vaccination sites are poorly run, some located where there's not enough parking or 'waiting-in-line' space, so vehicles back up onto the streets. And its just for medical workers and over-65 y.o. folks right now.

Luckily this is in a town of about 10,000 the closest big city San Antonio has 2 million and it is a mess. Can’t imagine the 13 million + in S California.

My father (98) got his about 2 wks ago in Oklahoma. He had no side effects and will get booster next week. Other relatives in OK over 65 haven’t been able to get theirs yet.

California's set-up is run by each county. Here in Orange County they've got temporary centers set up while they set up larger vaccination centers in five(?) locations that can accommodate larger crowds. One of those larger centers will be at Disneyland in Anaheim (big empty parking lot right now since the park is closed), it opened yesterday but appointments were needed and it turned into a total chaotic mess. I'll keep wearing my masks and washing my hands while hunkering down in my 'bunker' of a house until the crowds thin out. .

Was on a list got a call set up the time. 100 people over 65 per hour. Was surprisingly uneventful. Many people my age driving their elderly parents to the church where they were giving the vaccine. The church set up was perfect because they used the seating to keep people at distance etc etc. Took about an hour. Not dealing with a large population though.

I got an email from my doctor's office and they said they should have a supply in 1-2 weeks and then they will start sending out email so people like me, 65 and older< can make an appointment online. In all reality I don't expect to be getting a shot for at least a month. But is was nice of them to take the initiative and let me know.

Mom called my sister and I this morning. She said the vaccine altered her DNA now she want’s to cook at eat us But really just a sore arm and all is going well. So I’m chaining and locking up the microwave and oven and it hid the propane tanks for the outside grill and smoker.

They're vaccinating those that have recovered from the infection? Shouldn't you have antibodies enough?

I know there have been reports of a few cases of reinfection, but that has to be like 1 in 100,000 cases, right? What's the point of then applying a vaccine which is only 95% effective?

I am not going to call for information, at least not for a long time (few months?). I'm letting my bosses study that information/make those decisions for all of us. If I am told 'people more critical than you have now been vaccinated, it's your turn: this is when and where and how you go get vaccinated', I'll do it. Meanwhile I don't want to clog the system

Instructions from the doc are to go ahead and get vaccinated when I can, since it can't hurt, and there's the question of how long the antibodies last. I've heard of a few healthcare workers that were told the same. Seems that's the Mayo Clinic's recommendation right now.

The reason for my eligibility is that I'm an "essential infrastructure" worker. They're not usually immediately vaccinating the recently infected, if that's what you thought. I think it will be at least a couple of weeks before I can actually get the first dose.

not looking forward to it. I just got the last shot of the shingles vaccine beat me up good and a super sore arm.

My wife had the same thing with the shingles vaccine.

I have a kid (1st responder) who had the anti-COVID vax with no issue.

The reactions to the shingles vaccine seem to be all over the place. I just had my second shot. No big deal either time. My arm was little sore for just 24 hours. I had a little more fatigue than normal later in the day with the first dose. Nothing discernible with the second shot.

But the pneumonia vaccinations? Holy hell, my arm hurt for 2 weeks with both of them.

I have no idea when I can get the COVID vaccination. Sooner rather than later would be preferable as I have to interact with the virus spreading athletes on campus this semester in my lab. But until that time I will be wearing N95 masks around them.

I gotthe first shingles with the flue shot both arms hurt. but the second really made my arm hurt after a few hours first time it took over 24 hours. ya who knows when I can get the covid vaccine.

I got my first shot 3 days ago. No issues with mine. I got the Pfizer version.

Is the soreness from the vaccine itself? Or is it from getting a sharp thing stabbed into your muscle, and that stab could have varying pain based on how coincidentally close it is to a nerve?

Soreness is from the vaccine itself. Like I said, pneumonia shots have caused the most soreness followed by the tetanus shot. Flu shot is no big deal, at least for me.

Arm soreness is from the muscle being punctured and injected. It doesn't have anything to do with the actual shot given. Some people this doesn't bother, some people it does. I asked my SIL who is the medial field and she confirmed this with a doctor. The pain you feel might happen with any vaccine. But people react differently.

Interferon and innate immune response, and then IgM. I asked wife who is an immunologist and she confirmed this.

My mom, up in Fort Worth, 84 years old, got her shot 2 days ago... my sister said: "she was so brave, didn't even cry."

My wife is scheduled to get her first shot in 3 weeks.

I'm too young. "not eligible." I'll be 65 in April.

BTW, mom will be 85 next month.


And as far as soreness... I had a shingles shot and a tetanus shot just this last summer, same day, one in each arm. After 2 hours I could not lift my arms, and I felt generally "wrung out." Laid down and took a nap that afternoon. Was fine the next day.

I got the flu shot in late October... no reaction what so ever.
