A hand-made lamp from a recycled bicycle, what do you think

Hello,

I would like to present you a hand-made lamp made of 100% recycled materials obtained from an old bicycle.
the lamp was made by my brother in his workshop
The presented lamp is height-adjustable by turning the bicycle pedals. It is activated by a bicycle bell mounted at the base of the lamp.
What do you think about recycling old unwanted stuff? Do you like this idea?

I think the chain needs lube, I like a 50/50 mix of 30wt motor oil and mineral spirits...Other than that it looks vertically stiff and laterally compliant. Add some LBDs for support.

I like it but you say 100% recycled. Which bits of the bike are the dome on top and the base?

Cool, I like to repurpose and recycle things too - nice job.

I can't take credit for this, it was a gift - but in a similar vein

The lamp doesn't look like it would be vey useful; just a small illumination pattern. Looks more like an art class or design project. D4F's clock looks pretty good; easy to make from old chainrings, sprockets and chain, add in a clock mechanism from a craft store, some clock hands and you've got it.
